Hi the display of my garmin seems to be gone... it has been in charge all night and it makes its usual sounds when I turn it on and off and apparently change menu... but no sign on the display. It has actually been fading away for the last week.
Anyone had similar issues with it?
    Thanks

No but it sounds awfully like a battery issue! As if it's not holding the charge or something. Will it display while still on charge?

nope, i just plugged it in again now and i uploaded some activities, but no sign of display.
it actually works, but it is totally useless as it is.
I paid 270 for this thing... I'm slightly pissed off right now.

My 500 display started to fade. I sent it back to them and I had a reconditioned one sent out in 5 days. Mine was only 8 mths old.Replacement comes with 90 day warranty. If yours is out of warranty you can buy one for €69(I think). Very good customer service.

another thumbs up for garmin customer service. Mrs lenny broke her forerunner 110 watch after a crash, garmin replaced it for 69 quid (it wasnt covered by warranty)

I have found they respond quickly to e-mails and it's no harm having a record of the exchanges. They asked me to try a few things with my faulty Garmin but replaced it under warranty quickly once they failed.

I e-mailed them yesterday about my speed and cadence sensor which has stopped reading speed but is still reading cadence fine. I'm pretty sure the magnetic switch in the reed arm is busted due to collision with the spoke magnet. Wheel flex was to blame (well that and the infamous Swords Saturday Spin Pavilions Shopping Centre Sprint!).

By the way (and sorry for the thread hijack), does anyone know if it's possible to continue to get cadence data to display while the speed comes from the GPS?

Mine had a complete meltdown today and just stopped getting sats and cadence for a while. Had to turn off and on again to get it to work despite saying sat read was within 4m, cadence didn't work till i got home and reset it though.

Full credit to Garmin Customer Service.
I called and just after a few questions they came to the conclusion that the unit was obviously failing...
As I bought it in June last year and it is still in warranty, they are sending me a replacement unit.
    10 mins call, Problem solved.

Thanks again @couerdelion for the number.

they said I can hold on to the HRM and cadence sensor... they will just send out a replacement unit... hopefully the new one will not fail too soon

OT: sure it's quite an expensive piece of kit and the fact that it's failing so much (I think there are quite a number of cases only here) isn't that reassuring, is it?

Will you try to fix the old one? Would be a good project if they don't want it back...
If you want rid let me know, I'd love a go at it.

IIRC, you have to return the unit (for obvious reasons!). Like the OP, I was asked to hold on to my HRM and speed and cadence sensor. Despite this I harboured vague hopes that they would send me the entire bundle but understandably only the unit itself arrived.

That's right. The unit will come together with the instructions on how to send back the faulty one... understandably.
