Speed in residential areas?

Hi all, I've my test coming up soon and was hoping someone could set me straight about this: In residential areas with narrow roads or cars parked along the road what speed should you drive at? I've no problem doing 50km/h on wider roads but on these roads I'm usually at 40 max and am worried I'll get marked for lack of progress :(
P.S. I've been driving almost a year at this stage and am confident driving, just not about the test!

The speed limit is now not the issue but Road/traffic Conditions. If as you describe the road is narrow with lots of obstacles the speed should reflect the danger so should be reduced.
