I want to replace a carpet in a 5m x 5m loft room. Am based in between Kilkenny and Waterford so want to check if anyone can recommended who best to get a black, fairly flat, carpet from and, if needed, to fit it?

On fitting it - can I just lay it over the old carpet and tack it in or something?

Finally - there's a hatch in the floor to allow for furniture etc to be passed up so would need, but isn't super important, to have a hollow cut out. Would that pose a problem for carpet suppliers do you think or is that standard par for the course!

I can't help with a local supplier sorry but you may want to consider using a Tretford Carpet tile which is flat black & easily laid.
You will need to remove old carpet for any new installation.

Thanks firlodge. What are those carpet tiles like, do you know? I'd worry it looks tiled, with lines between each one. If I were to use the tiles would I still need to remove the old carpet?

    Hi
You will have to remove the old carpet I'm afraid. But the finish is excellent, will look seamless if properly laid.
There will also be cheaper carpet tile brands available.
    Good Luck!
