It's All in a Day's Work for a Psychopath

Here’s the list of jobs with the highest rates of psychopathy:
    1. CEO
    2. Lawyer
    3. Media (Television/Radio)
    4. Salesperson
    5. Surgeon
    6. Journalist
    7. Police Officer
    8. Clergy person
    9. Chef
    10. Civil Servant

Psychologist author Kevin Dutton argues in “The Wisdom of Psychopaths: What Saints, Spies, and Serial Killers Can Teach Us About Success” that “a number of psychopathic attributes [are] actually more common in business leaders than in so-called disturbed criminals — attributes such as superficial charm, egocentricity, persuasiveness, lack of empathy, independence, and focus.” Basically, certain fields of work are more likely to attract psychopaths than others.

Psychopaths are hardly ever killers. They are all devious manipulators with no remorse or compassion for others and who only see other humans as objects/things.

I was wondering why politician was not on the list - but most of them are either lawyers or own companies anyways.

    Televisions are psychopaths?

    I'm watching one right now

Could politicians be counted as civil servants? I'd be surprised if they aren't covered in there somewhere.

Wouldn't have thought so many people with no moral compass would end up as police officers.

In a bit of a stretch to suggest that everyone with a position in said top ten is a psychopath

What about the coppers at the Shell to Sea protest who talked about raping and deporting two american female activists?

What about "Axe-murderer"? I've heard that's a popular career choice for them as well. That and Martial Arts instructor. and red tarmac..

It's not saying everyone in these 10 fields is a psychopath, just that they are professions that psychopaths are more drawn to because of the psychopathic personality type.

That's not what the list said. This is the jobs which psychopaths gravitate towards and are found in the highest percentage. The non psychopaths working in these professions would be on the frontline of being abused and used by the psychopaths working around them: Bullying, Smear Campaigns, Stealing their Ideas etc.

Sound like a right pair of bastards, but not necessarily psychopaths. I'm not saying they weren't psychopaths, but just dong nasty stuff doesn't make somebody a psychopath. Most psychopaths are actually completely harmless.

I'm just kinda surprised that psychopaths would be drawn to being police officers, psychopaths don't really have the "protect and serve" mentality, although the options opened up to abusing the position do make a lot of sense now that I think about it.

If youve ever worked in a group of men, humour (and thats what it was, bad taste or not) like this would be common, whether you like it or not. Not too smart to be caught on tape though....

Nah, Michael O' Leary is a true capitalist. Maximising profits and minimising costs is all he cares about. Definitely not a psychopath, probably a bit of a bollix, a great businessman, that's about it.

You completley missed "AH Moderator" on that list, I demand an explanation!:D

A lot of great businessmen are psychopaths, that's why they are so successful, and I definitely wouldn't be surprised if O' Leary fits the criteria.

Anyone who uses more than two or three question marks at a time can hardly claim to be sane...
