Onkyo 606 HDMI handshake issue

    Alright folks,

Just looking for advice regarding my Onkyo 606 av receiver thats developed the dreaded HDMI handshake issue that seems so prevalent. I was wondering is there anywhere decent around Dublin that fixes receivers? I was looking at the D.I.Y. way of fixing by replacing the capacitors it but it seems very hit & miss and seeing as i am no use at soldering i'm pretty sure i'd make matters worse. I have the receiver about 4 years but this has been going on for the past 2 years to one extent or another. It started off as having to let the amp "heat up" before it would switch to any HDMI input (which in my case was all of them) and the heat up time has gotten longer as the years have gone by.

I've recently moved house and the 606 has been sitting in a box for the past 8 months i took it out tonight to see if the issue was still there and low and behold i'm getting nothing visually at the moment.

    Any advise??:(

    hello,

had exactly the same issue with mine 2 years ago but in the end I bought a Denon 1912 from Richer Sounds (with 5 year warranty) to replace it.

The Onkyo sits in my attic. I could only find UK repair places going by research on various Audiophile forums. It was looking like costing £120 for repair without factoring in shipping back and forth so thats why I just went for the Denon.

Its put me off Onkyo products as the hdmi issue seemed to be widespread on that model.

Wowser £120 before shipping? Not a danger i'd be spending that sort of money on it. I emailed onkyo customer care earlier with my information because i did hear they extended the warranty on the 606 with that particular issue but i'm not sure if they'll honour a purchase made 5 years ago. Seems ridiculous seeing how much the thing cost in the first place.
