Heir Hunters - unclaimed wills question

    Hi all,

I just watched an episode of Heir Hunters on the BBC and they referred to a list of thousands of unclaimed wills held on file by the UK Courts service or HM Revenue service, I didn't quite catch it right.

I have an uncle who emigrated to London in the early 50's and died a bachelor over there in 1975. Family stories always indicated that he had done well in construction but as he was a bit of a loner and hadn't kept in touch with his siblings no one ever chased up his legal affairs after his death and everyone just assumed if they had been left something of value they would have been contacted.

I found the programme fascinating and would like to look into my uncles situation myself starting with that list of unclaimed wills referred to in the Heir Hunters programme.

I'd really appreciate a steer on where/how to access that list of unclaimed wills so I might start my own little Heir Hunt! Well, I do need a new hobby/project for the New Year ;)

    Regards,

    Ben

I think there is a 30 year rule for the money to be kept and then it goes to the state. But I would be interested in knowing whether this was the case with a long lost relative of ours. My father said he once got a solicitor's letter about an inheritance but he thought it a scam and threw in bin.

Sorry to break the news! You should be able to check the probate calendar once you have his date of death. If he made a will, perhaps there are some relatives mentioned.
