    Hi,

having lots of trouble with my sky + HD box lately. I hve it approx 17 months, not hooked up to a phone line.

anyway, the following has been happening lately and is wrecking my head.

    1. won't switch off/on
    2. won't change channels
    3. displays channels but no program listings
    4. shows no programs recorded under the planner button
    5. record red light stays on even though show is long over
    6. when playing a recorded show and i pause it, won't restart playing show.

all of this is forcing me to turn off main power and restart box, i've checked all connections and seems fine.

because the plebs who installed the dish originally couldn't be arsed to do it right first time i had to recall them back out 2 or 3 times to actually fit the dish correctly, during this time 'loss of signal' and jumpy picture was a constant problem.

my question is will sky now charge me if i request a new box? if they do then i'm packing them in and switching to UPC.

    Cheers.

Yes....Once you have the box more than 12 months,,it's yours.

You still have a few options though.

You can ring them,,threaten to cancel and leave,,and they may offer you a new deal,,and box..

Or just buy a second-hand box,,and then ring sky and ask them to pair your card to the new box.

I also think there is an option to force an update to the box you have now..You could try that and see if it fixes the problems.

Thanks MrFrisp - just performed that software update there, will see how it works out over the next few days.

Do a full system reset "Please note this will wipe out all your recordings".
To do this press services 001 select then scroll across to system reset and press select and select again.
This should sort the box as it returns it to factory settings.

i rang sky last night and the guy walked me through a 'system rebuild' - which he said would correct any errors on the hard drive. well it didn't i'm afraid and after performing the update i'm back to square one.

next step is to ask for a replacement box but i'm not inclined to pay for it. iffin' they insist that i pay then i might as well go and swith to upc as i can get my broadband from them too without the phoneline.

    update:

after going through system rebuild & planner wipe (disgusted) no improvemnent.

sky charge 100 euro to get an 'engineer' out but have an 'offer' on at the moment where it is now 25 euro to get him out.

he will hopefully either fix the box (no chance i think) or replace it with a reconditioned box with a 3 month warranty.

so will see how it works out when he arrives.

    yes

I very much doubt that any of the men that they send out are actual engineers. I hope that everything works out for you. :)

We had something similar recently and the guy came out to us, replaced a box we'd bought privately with a reconditioned box and gave us a three month warranty. €30 all in, from memory. I'd pushed for a new box but they didn't go for it. But the reconditioned box has worked a charm since.

sky are charging me just a tenner now to get the engineer out, also rang to cancel skysports 1/2 price for 3 months, was offered 20% off for 6 months, i said no thanks.

cancelled HD also - they gave it to me 1/2 price for 12 months. i said yes.
