A Penalty Points Question

Apologies, as I'm pretty sure this has been asked 100s of times before but I'm looking for a small piece of advice.

My sister just gotta letter in the post notifying her that she was caught doing 59km/h in a 50km/h zone coming through Buttevant Co. Cork. Going by the date and time she worked out she was on her way back from a wedding in Cork but she wasn't driving, her boyfriend was. As it happens he's from Cork but he has been living and working in Britain for the last few years. I told her by right he should be paying the fine and taking the points as he has a full Irish driving licence.

The kicker is he isn't insured to drive her car. If she writes down his details and foreign address on the nomination section is this opening up a can of worms regarding the issue of insurance, i.e could the Gardai pursue it? Or is it just a case of handing over the €80 and that be the end of the matter. I'm pretty sure it'll be fine, I can't imagine anything coming of it but I just wanted to make sure here.

What do ye think boys and girls?

I got done on my brothers bike years ago. All he did was put my details down as driving at the time and I got the points, never asked if I was legally allowed on the bike as all they wanted was the money.

not to sound high and mighty but sheshould never let someone drive your car thats not insured. Its not about your car and ye but what about if they hit someone or another car that could cost €€€€€€.

I know, and I wasn't talking to her about it for long but I assume she may have been a tad hungover after the wedding so I think Mr. Boyfriend driving the car might have made sense. Hands up who's ever driven a car uninsured?

You'll get a fair few posters who will happily admit to driving without tax, but very very few have ever posted here that they have driven without insurance.

It's one of the most wreck less and selfish things you can do. You'll be hard pressed to find many here who would admit to it and hopefully not many who would do it.

Ok ok, this is getting slightly derailed. I think my question has been answered now.

The cops don't care so long as someone gives them the money.

you did ask. It's a very serious offence, instant seizure of the car if you are caught, and the max. penalties include a prison term.

reason I mentioned it is that I know someone who did and had an accidente and its not only against the law but you could be paying out for a long long time if they chose to sue your sister personally.
