Guess who's been reading MT Cranium's thread!
POSTMAN WARNS WINTER COULD STILL DELIVER A STING!
    January 8, 2013
Ireland’s best-known amateur weatherman says Donegal could still be in for a major cold snap in the coming weeks.
Postman Michael Gallagher says the fact that birds are singing and flowers are already coming into bloom doesn’t mean that we have escaped a harsh winter just yet.

In fact, Glenfin man Michael thinks freezing temperatures could be just around the corner.

“I know we have esc aped with a relatively mild winter but I think there will be a serious sting in the tail.

“People say that birds are singing and flowers are blooming so early but I think that’s a major sign of a late winter.

“A 95 year old man used to tell me that birds singing in winter was not them singing at all but crying and that cold weather was still on the way,” he said.
Michael, whose two books Traditional Weather Signs and Cures From A Bygone Age are still selling well, think s we will have a freezing February.

“I think that February could be very cold indeed and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a lot of snow.

“People are saying that once Christmas is over, we have turned the corner into Spring. I certainly don’t think that’s the case.

“I think we could have a number of cold snaps between now and March and even then it could be cold after that,” he said.

not sure about the wilds of the north west but down south we usually always get any snap in late jan and feb. anythime we used to have snow was usually around then, so while it maybe 10-12deg here at the mo it can easily get a lot lower in the coming weeks

Donegal postman Michael Gallagher has said he is "99pc sure" the country will suffer heavy falls before Christmas.

I don't know why he's even given column inches at this stage.

It's been unseasonally warm now for about two weeks. A four-year-old could tell you that colder weather is on the way, it's inevitable.

Two years ago he was on matt cooper on today fm.
I pulled in to the side of the motorway and wrote down what he said, mild two weeks in june, wet month following that, 25th aug would be the first of 3 weeks of fantastic weather etc. (approx dates are by me as i cant remember what i wrote down at the time)
I went on home, stuck it to the inside of the press door, and not one thing came through!

Although in fairness, its easy enough to assume we will have a cold snap in late jan to mid feb. we have been lucky enough so far, so due a bit of icy roads.

I dont dispute his weather signs from the animals as i would believe that. swans near us build their nests at different heights each year in prior to floods.

In other news, stopped clock is right twice a day.

He should stick to delivering the post.

I hope he's better at delivering post than forecasting the weather.
I wonder does he realise that the country isn't interested in his opinions.

And if there are signs from the animals about the weather he sure as hell doesn't know how to read them.

Book sales must be slowing, units-shift needs a boost.
