    Hi

I am supposed to be going to Galway for a few days next week, but i cant get a straight answer from Irish Rail about how much my ticket will be. Ive looked on their website and it wont give a price- and i figured if i tried to pretend book online a total would come up at least.

But no... I then called Irish Rail who hung up on me once when i was asking them the price, and then when i called back i got a woman who basically said "You wont know the price until you get there on the day"

Now thats no good to me, I know it will prob be 50e+ for a return (its 38 for a return on bus but I vomit on buses) Has anyone travelled from Clonmel to Galway in the last 6 months and can tell me how much it cost?

Thats return. A day return and open return will be a wee bit different; when you buy your ticket on the day make sure to ask for the right one.

The number for Clonmel station is 052 21982. Try them but there generally is only one staff on duty there so they may not be able to pick up a call straight away.

Those fares are not correct - that's the express rate.

The route is economy 2 - hence the rail fare should be €40.

No answer from Clonmel station so far. Ya buses not an option, even with travel tablets i feel sick. Last 2 times id to get driver to stop so i could be sick and 1 of those times id to run into a pub to vomit and the bus couldnt wait so I had to wait for the next bus.

Where can the fares be found easily on the Irish rail website? Where does it state this route is economy2? This is all secret information which the travelling public are not meant to know it seems.

The intercity fares for each category were listed in the NTA document in November.

The route is one of the lightly used lines - so therefore it's pretty obvious it is not an express route, nor is it likely to be economy 1.

The distance was all that was needed - and that is zone P.

A little bit of detective work goes a long way!

Indeed and while I (and I assume others!) appreciate your work & contributions, a simple fare enquiry should not require "detective work".

No it shouldn't, I agree, but the previous poster was rushing to conclusions and posting wrong information.

Without rushing to any conclusion is there a valid reason Irish rail don't have a fares calculator on their website? Is there a reason they don't allow online purchase of any tickets except intercity tickets?

I don't know - you should ask Irish Rail.
