Whats happening to my pay?

Hi guys, looking for some advice, my contract in work has my gross pay as 450, and my take home has always been 428

For 4 months there was no change

Then last payslip of the year, was like this

    Total Pay 450

    Total Gross Pay 450
    PAYE 26.54
    USC 9.00
    PRSI 12.92

    Payment 401.54

    My next payslip was like

    Total Pay 450

    Total Gross pay 450
    PAYE 26.17
    USC 14.14
    PRSI 18.00

    Payment 391.69

Why has it been going down?

Also, my basis always says cumulative, on the top payslip it said, week one, and on the second it is back to cumulative but its like my employment history with this company and my previous employment has been erased. The only figures showing for my current employment are the ones on my most recent payslip and my previous employment has nothing at all now.

Any ideas? I know I am probably not being very clear but will try to answer any questions you have that may help me understand it

It would be correct that your first payslip of the year would have the week and cumulative amounts the same

PRSI is up because the weekly allowance which was not levied for PRSI in 2012 has been abolished for 2013

USC - you must have earned less then 10k in 2012 == USC was levied at 2% - which is the rate for < 10,036

    PAYE - No idea sorry

The PAYE is the most puzzling to me, but you think the figures are right and I am just going to be coming out 30-40euro or so a week worse off from now?

Im on a weeks holiday so havent spoken to my employer about it, is there any point in calling the tax office and seeing what they make of it?

If you only worked four months last year then you had a whole years tax credits against PAYE whereas this year you have none.

You need to get your P60 for 2012 and ask tax office for balancing statement .

For 2013 your payslip should read as follows :
    Gross - 450.00
    Tax - 27.00
    PRSI - 18.00 ( 4 % )
    USC - 18.00 ( 4 % )
    Nett - 387.00

This is assuming you are single with no medical card

Yep, single, no medical card but two kids (not living with me, but paying maintenance for)

I got my P60 emailed to me, so I just ring the tax office and ask for a balancing statement or I bring in my P60 to them and they do the balancing statement off that?

Yep, single, no medical card but two kids (not living with me, but paying maintenance for)

It might be possible for you to claim the single-parent's tax credit and this would reduce your PAYE deduction. There are conditions required in order for you to claim it -the children would need to stay with you overnight at least once per year, you're not cohabiting- see details here

Also, check my Excel spreadsheet tax calculator available from the link shown in my signature below or from the 'About me' section of my profile

I dont have custody of the kids though, they do stay with me one night a week however, dont think thats enough to qualify for the one parent tax credit is it?

You should try get this credit if you are eligible but be carfeful as if you are or ever do co-habit you are not entitled to it and quite a few have been snagged recently.
The credit does make quite a difference to your pay packet, well worth claiming

OP you'll definitely get the one parent tax credit. Just ring the tax office and apply. You are entitled to have it backdated 3 years.
