I'm looking to avail of the bike to work scheme and have picked out two that I like. Are they good bikes, are they reasonably priced and does the more expensive one have features that justify the cost? I'm clueless; all I'm going on is that I've read that Trek is a good manufacturer. Thanks.

I'm fairly clueless too, but I bought a Trek 7.2fx 18months ago on the BTW scheme and I'm very pleased with it. I've put over 2,000km on it. I'm thinking of buying a road bike now (them on here will say everyone does eventually). I would just repeat what everyone on here says..get the best bike you can, i.e. Spend the full grand as you only get it every 5 years.

First of all, what do you require the bike for? Fitness, weekend spins, commuting to/from work? If its for fitness and weekend spins then I'd avoid both those bikes and gets road bike (racer) which will be lighter and faster.

Secondly, what is your absolute maximum budget and take into account that you also need to buy helmet, clothing, shoes and pedals.
