Best never signed talent

Im sure some of you like me have one or two indy talents that were or are currently active that were never signed by WWE, WCW or TNA that you feel should of getting a shot at the big time.

For me it is JODY FLEISCH. The first time I believe I seen him was at CZW Best of the Best, his finisher the 720 DDT deserves to be seen by a larger audience alone. An amazing talent that atleast could of been a solid midcarder in WWE or a solid asset to TNA's Xdivision. His size would obviously be a factor standing at 5 5 but in fairness if you can move like that who cares!

Always wanted to see Necro Butcher join TNA in some capacity with Abyss, either tag team or foe. Some solid serious hardcore wrestling would be had!

I was also am very intrigued by the briscoe bro's I havent watched much of them but thay seem to have alot of hype about them.

Anyone have any thoughts? feel irked that your favourite indy guy has never been signed. Home or abroad

Jody Fleisch was a clown!See the King of Europe Cup show for evidence of same.

Id say someone like El Generic is a good shout. Unbelievable talent. The guy just gets it. Thankfully he makes a fortune on the Indies and doesn't need to go to the big leagues.

That was a pretty sick botch but hardly makes him a clown, an amazing high flyer in the early 00's. Could of easily been brought into developmental and shown the way....

Kevin Steen seems to be high on peoples list, crazy mobile for his size. Not the biggest ROH follower unfortunately, but if I come across a match of someone that grabs my attention I tend to try and go out of my way to familiarize myself with them, Steen is currently in that bracket for me

Flesh was a limited spot monkey IMO. There's dozens of guys out there that could do that stuff but could also string a match together.

Was a damn good spot monkey though, one I would of enjoyed seeing in a ultimate x match along with Jack Evans. There is a place for them kind of wrestlers on a show.

Check out AR Fox or Samurai Del Sol if you're into that, in fact, here's a decent highlight reel of a match between the two:

That cherry cola....to me thats what x division wrestling should be now....stuff like that deserves to be seen by a wider audience. There are so many different styles nowadays , this definetely has a part to play, not a major one but its such a variation of what we see today on mainstream channels. The lucha libre invasion on wcw had a major effect in its day, why couldnt something like this do the same. Will definetley watch te full match

A few years ago I would have picked Kevin Steen or Jimmy Jacobs above him, but now El Generico is easily the best wrestler not signed to a major company and it boggles my mind that even TNA haven't picked him up.

He makes a killing as is, he doesnt need to sign for one company. Unless he is offered a guaranteed contract (like the top guys in TNA are on) or at least the freedom to still work any other shows he wants (ROH included), he'd be mad to sign for them. WWE would probably be a development deal so again, he'd be mad to take it.

In relation to samurai del sol I heard rumblings that he may have been offered a dev deal, he denied it though, but just thought it wa interesting after reading the above post, serious athletic moves!

Was watching the briscoes YouTube videos recently apparently they aren't aesthetically pleasing enough to be offered deals which is bull I mean snitskey was one ugly mo fo!

I know cabana had a deal before but anyone reckon he could be offered one soon, I mean considering it seems to be in the pipeline since the pipe bomb.

I find it extremely unfortunate for guys like mdogg 20 who have been plying their trade on the indies for years and are shunned or in his case cast off tough enough in replacement for someone like silent rage!

Have to agree with Petey boy on Jody Fliesch. Just another spot monkey who does not know the spelling of the word psychology much less understand it. Makes Jack Evans look a master of it.

Not much to add than what has been said - Steen, Jacobs, Generico (though I feel Genericos look would not work in the "big leagues").

Delirious could be another shout. Brilliant wretler with a fun gimmick. He would only end up running through walls with Hornswaggle though.

Oh and that other guy who looked great in that promotion, you know the guy, had long hair, a few tattoo and cursed a lot. Whats his name?

A few of the guys from the latest Tough Enough were quite good. Matt Cross was by far the best of the lot and yet got cut from the competition in the second week? Martin Casaus and Luke Robinson are also really solid workers. AJ Kirsch has really stepped up his game and improved both his physique and ring skills over the last year. Robbie Eagles from Australia would fit in really well with WWE in my opinion

Jessie McKay is an Australian girl who's worked a lot with SHIMMER in the US and she's really talented, plus she's absolutely gorgeous and it's a shocker she hasn't been signed. Athena and "Girl Dynamite" Jennifer Blake also have the WWE look and are pretty talented in the ring

Matt Cross aka M Dogg 20 is another spot monkey. FFS, when he was in some shít stable in ROH, the people he was feuding with referred to him as the gymnast. Quite apt I thought. The guy had zero ring presence whatsoever.

During Tough Enough and post Tough Enough era press he showed no self awareness or PR savy. He's a geek essentially.

Ten years on from when he broke out on the indies he still hasn't worked on his overall game in ring or projecting a personality.

    IWW was about his level!

That whole stable wars era of ROH was awful in hindsight. Diluted down way too much by mediocre talents like Cross and Ruckus.

Christ - horrible memories of The Vulture Squad. Who came up with that god awful name. Awful.

No Remorse Corps was a pretty shítty name as well.

What was Aries' stable name? The one with Cross in it?

I came in to say Jody Fleisch. I used to love watching him on the wrestling channel on Sky in the early 00's.

Iirc he got a serious injury that ended any major interest from the states.

Guess I can shoehorn this in from the Observer:
Adam Cole and Sami Callihan both have WWE tryouts scheduled between now and the end of the month. I believe this is Callihan’s second tryout. The success of Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and in particular Punk and Bryan has caused a totally different feeling when it comes to talent coming through the indies and also talent that doesn’t have the look, the size and the physique that used to be the first thing they look for. The mentality was that you sign people who can be TV stars and teach them to wrestle WWE style, as opposed to sign great wrestling talent and giving them the ball and seeing how far they can run with it.

I truly think Adam Cole has major, major potential. A constantly developing strong wrestler and promo. Also a big auld ride.

On that track I would say that Rhett Titus could be worth a shot in the near future as well.

I suppose one could say The Briscoes, but I really could not see them on mainstream TV. (which reminds me, I am going to watch ROH Liverpool and Finale this weekend for the Briscoes matches. Unreal.)

I'm not the biggest follower of Irish wrestling at the moment, promotions down seem to venture south east very often any more, but guys like mandrake omen the supermodel maxed etc would anyone say they are wwe worthy.... The above mentioned seemed to have worked with a significant amount of ex wwe talent.... Would it be possible for them to get recognised and dev deal? I know the supermodel had a wwe try out a few years ago....with wwe having non American characters not playing such a xenophobic role anymore, Barrett Gabriel shemus McIntyre the Irish guys seem to have a chance at establishing a character that is not solely based on their countries stereotype

I dont see the Briscoes leaving ROH unless the company folded.

Really hope Adam Cole doesnt go to WWE. It would be a massive blow to the indies to lose him, especially if Generico is going too. Callihan on top of that would leave very, very slim pickings and a lot of companies would struggle to draw any meaningful attendances.

Jessie McKay could do with another few years of work before she is ready for a major promotion.

Agree with you on Jennifer Blake. I remember the first time I saw her thinking WWE would be keen on her but as time goes on it's looking less likely. I remember her playing some ice maiden in that whacky Wrestlicious promotion a few years back. I was hoping maybe Jimmy Hart might recommend her to someone.

Jesus WWE could be sensational in 2-3 years' time.

Those heelish promos Cole started cutting a while back were very good.

She seems to be happy where she is in Mexico right now. She's been working with AAA for a couple of years now so maybe she's just never tried out

"The Resilience." Bleeugggh. Had to google it. Erick Stevens was in it too.

Jesus the whole thing was a pile of sh*te when you look back. I think Gabe was watching too much Dragon Gate.

He's just great. CM Punk, Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart and a bunch of others wrapped up in one package.

Shimmer oh so randomly re-uploaded this promo from Rebecca Knox ;););):

Wrote this in the past on here and still think it:
Rebecca Knox was someone who I was very high on despite being somewhat raw as a talent as at times she was a little OTT and unfocused on promos and when heeling it up. Prodigious on the mat, being a heck of heel, having show stealing performances both in ring and as a character she generated a ridiculous amount of word of mouth and a fan following when she swept through America. Her name still gets brought up when Shimmer is brought up in generalised wrestling discussions and promotions still market DVDs based off her name 4 1/2 years after her departure from wrestling.

Things may happen for her in 2013.

Damn right. :D Oddly enough I was reading his Twitter there as he seems to be back in Dublin as he is Tweeting fans back to say cheers for complementing him on the Tokyo Dome match. Anyway as per usual he said he is extremely happy with New Japan, he never has considered going to TNA and hinted he has been offered a deal by WWE or TNA in the past.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

He doesn't need to sign with WWE or TNA. New Japan have no shortage of divisions should he grow bored of the Junior Heavyweight title. Plus, I'm sure he is well paid.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

Exactly, Chuck Taylor tweeted recently "saying you havemt made is as a wrestler because you have not signed with WWE is like saying you havent made it as a musician because are not in Nickelback".

WWE is not the be all and end all. Its the biggest player in the game certainly, but great careers are forged elsewhere without ever "being signed".

Was corino ever signed to one of the big two? I know he was with ecw early on but was he ever offered anything by wwe or wcw? He was brought in as a writer for wwecw I believe at one stage

He think he signed a contract of some form with WCW in the absolute dying days. He and Dustin Rhodes were going to be a tag team in the new relaunched WCW if Bischoff's consortium purchased WCW. He had a developmental deal with WWF too I think as well. Regardless Steve counts IMO.

    And you do?
Because thats a very bold & disrespectful statement to make.

There's commenting on someone or their performance (eg, I just dont like him, hate all them 30 mad reversals/almost 'the matrix type' of spots etc etc) Then there is commenting on how a person doesnt know the inner-workings of his chosen profession. But what, we do!?

I have never stepped in a Wrestling ring no. But I do know that a basic of the game is to sell offense. If you are jumping about like a kid on speed 2 minutes after a prolonged beat down it doesn't make the viewer believe that that offense was much good does it? This is a major flaw in Fleischs style therefore I could not enjoy his work. As far as I am concerned the above is basic psychology.
