How to restore fire damaged furniture

    Looking for some advice!

I recently had an electrical fire at home and a dresser made from red deal with a diamond varnish, was smoke damaged quite badly at the top. The area damaged includes shelving with beading. I washed off most of the soot with sugar soap but I have 2 problems, the detail is hard to clean and the shelves appear scorched leaving marks of whatever was on the shelf.

This dresser has sentimental value and if it was economically viable I'd like to save it, if at all possible.

What are my options and would a professional acid dip be beneficial? Has anyone done what I'm asking?

It has been made very well and in such a way that it is impossible to separate the top from the bottom!
    Thanks in advance!
