Car passed the NCT today. Like most expectant fathers . . . sorry . . male car owners, I watched the test through the view windows at the center. I noticed that while other cars were having their brakes tested on the rollers mine did not.

I thought maybe I'd missed it but when the results were delivered I noticed there were no values in the brakes section other than hand brake !!

So how did the car pass without a brake test ?

    Do you work for RTE?

Is it 4wd? If so, they cannot test on the rolling road, so they put a brake force tester on the floor of the car and brake in the carpark to get a reading. They cannot get individual wheel figures.

Maybe when he was driving it in he taped the brakes and nearly went through the windscreen so decided they were grand :)

That makes sense. The tester seemed to take an age after the test appeared to be over to get back to me. Another owner who I was talking with said he'd seen my car being driven away from the center. Yes it is a 4WD albeit part time.

    Thanks, makes sense now.

They don't have the facility to do brake test on 4wd vehicles.!

Correct - Zener's wagon is a Honda CRV. As you say, braketests are not done on the rollers. I don't think they can do the alignment (eg -10m/km) tests either. Well, having looked at the attachment it seems they can do the alignment tests!

    Speechless...
Brake effort is there, and the rest just empty fields???

Consider yourself lucky (i believe your brakes where good anyway, but should be tested regardless).
Are you going to put a formal complaint:D

    Mistery solved, ignore above.

decelerometer (or tapley) test is done on 4wd's or cars with a welded diff. we have a device made by bowmonk that measures speed and stopping distance.
