    Yeah I thought it stalled too, poor guy was probably really nervous. Good effort.

    Every time I go up in an old Piper I'm reminded how flimsy the cockpits and interior are, no crash protection at all really. Note the way the door popped open, although I think one of the emergency checklist items might be to part-release the door for easy egress or am I thinking of a Tomahawk.

    Seems to stall at the last moment alright. Still, in this case... any landing you can walk away from...!

    Opening the door before a crash landing is what you're supposed to do. It prevents any damage impeding egress. Standard practice. The Piper would be one of the less flimsy light aircraft. None are designed to withstand impact. You either put it in under some control, or you most likely don't walk away.

    Yeah it is procedure to open the doors before a forced landing etc.
