    Hi
My partner became unemployed in March 2012 last year. Can I claim their tax credits? or do they seek their own refund etc? What form should we use? (We are married).
    Thanks

Thanks Citizenpain for the link, but i have already been to the Revenue's website. I am just not sure whether my other half applies for it themselves or whether I claim (as the employed person) .

Secondly I am not sure how to claim / what form to use to get any benefit. (In asking these questions I presume one of us is entitled to some sort of tax credit pay back? due to my partners cessation of employment in mid 2012?).

Any one else able to help?

If you are jointly assessed for tax purposes then either of you can request a p21 balancing statement via your paye anytime account for 2012. As its still early January, I doubt your employer has filed their end of year p35 for you but you never know. If any refund of tax is due for 2012, it will issue automatically to you.

Again for 2013, either of you can contact Revenue via phone or email explaining your situation; how much taxable income you will both probably have this year and ask them to adjust your credits and rate band accordingly.

Please note your spouses DSP jobseekers benefit is a taxable source of income.
