Disaster!

    I just broke the left hand shift lever on my bike. The bike was unused over christmas and the front derailleur was stiff this morning & wouldn't shift back to the small chainring when shifting down. When I got into work, I dropped it down manually into the small chainring & then shifted back up and the shift lever flew off across the floor!!

    It is Campag Xenon 10 spd. I've spent the whole morning trying to find a replacement part online but no joy so far. The only other option is to get a new one from Wiggle, or one of the other online shops, but it'll be over a hundred quid to do this. I can't afford that, so does anyone have any idea of where I can find a replacement?

    Cheapest I've seen is Veloce shifters on Bike24. Half thinking of getting a pair myself, as I'm currently on 9sp xenon, and 10sp veloce would be a reasonable upgrade.

    Try sidcup cycles. I had to replace a spring on my front brake caliper and they were very helpful. Also sigma sport. If that fails pick up the phone to Mercian cycles and talk to them.
    Although campy parts are rebuildable sometimes it may just be easier to get a new shifter and sell the old one for spares.
    Put up a request on the bike radar forums for the shifter you need and you may get some joy

    Is warranty an option?

    Found what I was looking for;

    It's gonna be a challenge to re-install but I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the suggestions everybody.

    Don't forget to fix the cause of the stiffness before you replace that (of course the cause might have been the previous lever, but probably not).

    this is crucial. I thought that mine was just caused by crud jamming the cable up BUT it was crud and Shiite had jammed up the pivots on the FD itself and not letting it move. I took of the mech and soaked it and scrubbed it.Let it dry out then liberally applied lube to all the moving points of it.Considering the consistently damp weather combiined with a general riding on crappy roads I am surprised it lasted that long.

    I made up a guard for the front derailleur from a drink bottle many years ago. It's kept mine clean and working well since. Only replaced it recently after 4 years or service.

    Possibly pure laziness, but I've not even tried to sort out the initial problem because I want to keep it in the big chainring. If I let it drop into the small ring, it would be very difficult to change it back up, especially while on the move.

    I usually keep everything nice & shiny clean though. A thorough clean, degrease & lube every 3 weeks.

    I'm guessing that sir is a public servant!!*

    Only joking! I've no interest in cycling but couldn't resist a bit of gentle stirring!!
