Connecting at London Heathrow - Enough time?

    Hi,

I'm flying Shannon to Rio Brazil on 31st Jan, connecting in Heathrow. My luggage will not be checked through. The flight from Shannon is due to arrive in Heathrow T1 at 9a.m and my flight to Rio departs at Midday from T5.
Does anyone know if this will leave me enough time to collect my bags at T1, travel to T5, check in luggage and get through security?

    Thanks!

It's doable. Not ideal, but doable.

3 hours is fine, any less when you have to re-check in bags in T5 is dodgy, 3 hours is grand. Have done it less than 3 hours dozzens of times. Need to be on the ball, but you will be fine.

Yeah ,I'm a bit wary because it's 3 hours from 'touchdown' and I know with Heathrow sometimes can be kept circling above if it's busy :( so time could slip away quite quickly. Hopefully all will go smoothly!

Well 9AM is quite early so the risk of a stack is not as high until later in the day.

I am assuming as its T5 its Aer Lingus and British Airways, why did you not book a through ticket on BA.com so your bags get checked through?

I booked the Rio flight as part of a RTW ticket through STA with my boyfriend. However we are leaving from different parts of Ireland (we are meeting at LHR) so we left it off the itinerary at the time and booked our London flights separately after. When I booked the flight I had no worries and felt it was loads of time but now it's getting nearer I'm starting to get worried about all the things that could go wrong and lead to me missing my flight!

Aer Lingus arrive into T1 from Shannon.

If incoming flights are been delayed or stacked up it will normally have the same time delay on flights on the ground as well.

Not if they're using 27L for arrivals and 27R for departures. Heathrow isn't Gatwick or Dublin. Parallel runways allows an airport to operate a separate queuing system for arrivals and departures so a delay in one doesn't necessarily affect the other.

Thanks for the help, ended up booking a flight for the night before, not worth the risk!
