Hi all, I am currently on the x and o allowance system. I work part time in retail , usually 2 days a week, 8-12 hours on minimum wage. I am 21 and thus 100 is the max entitlement on JSA.(which I have been means tested and entitled to) I started the x and o about 6 months ago. I have a few questions. They told me I did not have enough contributions for JSB, however I worked full time as a civil servant for 10 months in 2011. I am about to lose the retail job. My questions are

    1. Will I have enough contributions to go onto JSB based on my work from 2011? If my application is made in 2013 do they use that year? Is this even possible?

    2. If so would I be on 186 even though I am only 21?

    3. Will I have to be means tested/fill out paperwork again even though It was done for my JSA a few months ago?

Thanks if anyone can help! Would be greatly appreciated.

    1) yes 2011 is the qualifying year for claims made in 2013.JSB http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/unemployed_people/jobseekers_benefit.html

2)The rate you would get depends on your weekly earnings in 2011,see above link.

    3)Jsb is not means tested.

Thanks. The second point is a little unclear on the site. I earned give or take 400 a week in 2011 , from that I think I would have a full entitlement but not sure?

One other thing , I keep receiving emails about claiming back tax for the 2011 year, they have told me I am entitled to circa 700 quid if I let them press go but to be honest I would rather pursue it myself than let a company do it. If I claimed any money from this do you know if that would implicate my JSB claim? Thanks again for your help!

Your entitlement to JSB is based on your number of stamps/contributions and has nothing to do with your earnings or any savings you have.

It only lasts for 6 or 9 months.

Just to add to the above the amount you receive on JSB once you are eligible depends on your average weekly earnings in the gcy (governing contribution year) the gcy for claims made on or after 7.1.2013 is 2011.

I dont think you will have enough contributions at present. You need to have 104 contributions in total. If you only entered the workforce in 2011 and had 10 months work that is 42 contributions approx how long were you working in 2012 if for the full year then you would have another 52 cons at the end of 2012 so you would need a further 10 cons approx in order to qualify for jsb.
