So I was in Roscommon yesterday, doing a bit of touring as a tech guy with a play. Stayed over in a hotel, and came out this morning to find the 'Cruiser like this:

    B15D73CE-2552-437A-BCBD-5EFFD32F60CC-7027-00000504D8662E7C.jpg

Door lock completely busted, screwdriver left on the drivers seat. Ipod, not-so-cheap Prescription Sunglasses, Watch, USB 12v charger,MagLite and interestingly, a piece of chocolate biscuit cake, stolen. Local Gardai came over and were brilliant. We went up to the station and their CSI guy came out and gave it a Tech Exam, not that it will yield much.

I do feel fortunate in a way, to have found the most inept petty thief in Ireland, as he didn't appear to notice the MacBook, €3000 worth of stage lighting gear, and €1000 worth of tools all within easy reach.. Must have had small pockets... dirty scrotbag..

Need to get on to insurance in the morning, hopefully they will dispense a bit of monetary justice.

While I'm sorry to hear you were burgled, why would you leave so much stuff in your car ?

    ...and he forgot his screwdriver.

The obvious question... I was touring with a show and wasn't going to bring it all in (silly with the Mac i know) Most of the stuff resides in the jeep full time, especially tools, glasses etc. I should be allowed to leave whatever I want in it, in a supposedly secure car park...

My first thought also. Whatever about the lighting gear, why on earth would you leave things like an iPod and Macbook in a car overnight? Just asking for trouble to be fair.

In a perfect world we wouldnt have to lock our doors at night and could leave our keys in the ignition without consequence, but this is far from a perfect world Im afraid. Thieves break into cars when they see that there are things in it that they can take. Id imagine this guy must have thought that all of his Christmases had come early when he looked into your car...

Fair enough point... probably cos I've never had a break in before... and not cautious enough, but nothing was visible from outside the vehicle, so the fella broke in without an invitation... no further self justification required

I can sympathize with the OP you finish on a show, obviously you've had a late night long day and maybe a breakdown after too, it was an oversight.
Being there done that working in this particular industry i know the feeling.

However if the stuff wasn't in a locked glovebox of boot/out of sight insurance may not pay out, your excess may not cover much of the stuff either. And as none of it could be considered company property they may not cover it under work insurance.

I'd still contact them and see what happens.

Cheers, I'll see what they say, All the stuff that walked was in the centre console/armrest which is covered and had 2 coffee cups on top, the gear in the back cant be seen as the back is kitted out like a van. Not really looking for sympathy, I suppose people in the Roscommon town area might be made aware that there's some fine citizen going around doing this.
