My wifes Almera is goosed, too much to do etc, But I was talking to my neighbour 3 door up who has got a 12d company car and has a 02 golf petrol just lying there. It is 02 60k miles new tyres, 18 months nct and he tells me the only thing not working is reverse lights.
Could be just bulbs or the thing in the gearbox that tells lights etc, but neither of us are experts and apart from that I feel It is a good car as he always got it serviced a a local VW garage.
Without insulting him, what should I offer ? Car is immaculate .
    Andy

    Is it a 3 or 5 door? I'm going to guess it's a 1.4 petrol?

Those golfs tend to make good money, even when 10+ years old. I reckon he'd get 2000 for it selling it on donedeal. I just know I wouldn't pay that much, but I'm not exactly the target market!

Check and see if the timing belt and water pump has been done, it should have been done twice at this stage, well just about, pretty sure it's every 4/5 years.

    I reckon €1750 or so.

my Cousin sold his 02 1.4 Golf 5 door with 128k miles on it for €2,400 in November last - it had just passed the NCT.

5 door, I will hit him with 12/1500 and see how we get on .

I don't think an 02 car can have 18 months nct left so watch that.

Depends on the registration date. You can NCT a car up to 3 months early, in which case the car could have been tested before it was 10 years old. I *think* that would give the car a 2 year NCT as it was under 10 years old.

that would still only give a max of 15 months.

It's worth €2k easily in good order with that kind of mileage. So see what needs doing and work backwards from that figure. Timing belt is the big thing as already posted. So if it hasn't been done then it needs doing so allow €320 or so for that. Also probably needs a service plus reverse light switch @ €150 or thereabouts.

Well it's now an 11 year old car, low mileage alright..€2K to 2.5 would be fair to both.

I'd be reluctant to buy from or sell to family/friends or neighbours, it usually ends in pain.

Even if the car is only 9 years and 9 months old when the test is done?
