Just wondering how difficult or time consuming it is to swap over handlebars on a road bike?

Is it something that could be done at home with limited techinical experience, like following instructions from a youtube video or is it something that would need to be done by a professional that knos what they are doing??

    many thanks

Its a pain in the Nat King Cole but can be done if your anyway handy. The bar tape is the biggest headache.

All you need is a set of allen keys. If you're changing the shifters as well you might need a pair of cable cutters too. There's nothing all that complicated about it. As velo said, it might take awhile to get the bar-tape perfect but that's not a biggie.

Simple job if you ask me:

    1. Remove old bar tape.

    2. Remove shifters, 1 allen head bolt per shifter clamps them to the bars. Simply loosen the bolt and slide the shifters off the old bars

    3. Remove the 4 allen head clamping bolts that clamp the bars to the stem.

    4. Stick on new bars.

    5. Slide back on shifters

    6. Play with the bar angle and shifter position until you have it where you want.

    7. Put on new bar tape. It's not rocket science, just takes a wee bit of patience to get right. Buy the tape that's only slightly sticky, makes retaping easy. Sure if even it looks a little wonky so what. You'll be changing it again in a while anyway.

I like this tape, feels like luxury :)
