Former Presidential election candidate Sean Gallagher has issued legal proceedings against the broadcaster RTE in relation to his treatment on The Frontline Presidential Debate programme.

This is kind of confusing given that on November 30th, 2012, there was a story saying that he would not be taking a challenge, that essentially he was a man "who thinks about the future, not the past"..... And when speaking to Gabriel Mary Byrne on The Meaning Of Life, he said the same thing himself..

Pat made the following remarks about the issue in early September last year.
"All my staff were completely vindicated, the personnel on 'The Frontline' . . . all vindicated, I was delighted with that process.

"No matter what you can say about the provenance of the tweet, Sean Gallagher was judged by the public not to be worthy of their votes," Mr Kenny told the Irish Independent.

I wonder upon reflection on Pat's fairly pompous and unremitting defence of the show, did Sean Gallagher feel a bit like Tom Gilmartin?

Think this may be more TV related thread not sure though.

The next day there was a follow-up interview with Gallagher on Today with Pat Kenny. RTE had the opportunity to repair some of the damage, but apparently nobody told Kenny that there was an issue with the twitter account.

Just prior to the release of the BAI report, Pat had Fionnan Sheahan on the radio show to discuss the issue. They both concluded that it was Gallagher's response to the question that did for him, not the question itself - which in retrospect was a very self-serving bit of radio.

That said, Higgins did win quite comfortably in the end and I don't think it affected the outcome of the election. Still doesn't excuse the clear bias on the night though.

I don't see how there's any case as the substantive issue is that what the text claimed re: a donation for FF, was entirely true. And Gallagher was the one who admitted it and said the magic word "envelope". Made it worse with his side-rant about Morgan's criminal record; effectively he said to the nation that he had taken a donation for FF from a convicted criminal.

Morgan himself did appear - but on UTV after the embargo down here.

Sean Gallagher, what an odious little man.

It was clearly his response to the tweet which sunk him. He's just bitter because he was forced to tell the truth.
