Lower abdominal pain when stretching

I have developed an issue a couple of weeks ago when stretching after a run. Maybe someone can shed some light as to why it's happening.

When I'm stretching my right hamstring, I get a shooting pain in my lower abdomen, about 3 inches in and 1 inch down from my right hip. It's a sharp shooting pain that only occurs as I bend at the waist to stretch my hamstring. Hurts like f£%k so obviously didn't keep stretching. Unfortunately it's still persisting which means I can't stretch properly.

Does anyone have experience with what could be causing this? I haven't experienced any recent injury which could explain what's going on. Thanks for the advice.

Shooting pain can be a nerve problem - do you get worried at all when you stretch?

More seriously - a physio might be able to help.

    Worried??

I'm planning a physio visit. Just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem and what is the cause/ solution.

Mods will probably come along shortly to close this thread as medical advice is not permitted. Sensible too if you think about it. Following the idea of somebody you don't know who has never met you is asking for trouble. A physio will get a proper history and do a physical exam. Chalk and cheese and IMO you're more likely to do yourself harm by listening to what most of us might think.

    Hope it gets better quickly.

Not giving medical advice .. your hip flexors and abdominals work together. Hamstrings oppose the hip flexors. It sounds more like a hip flexor that has got into a bit of a lockup. Your physio should be able to help this out .

Always make sure when stretching that you stretch opposing muscle groups and not just the agonist
