Difference between Psychics and Mediums

Reading threads in this forum it crossed my mind that some people may not entirely understand the difference between a Psychic and a Medium. They are frequently referred to as the same thing, but in reality are quite different:

A Medium is someone who can connect with people who have died, acting as a medium between you and your friend/relative in the Spirit world.

Being Psychic can mean two different things, firstly of course it can mean the ability to see into the future (as in a fortune teller), but it can also refer to someone's way of reading you, I,e. a person who can read your psychic energy to tell you all about yourself.

All mediums are psychic, but not all psychics are mediums.

It's important to know the difference as I've frequently seen posts from people who have visited a psychic and complained that they have not received a communication from someone in spirit that they were hoping for. Of course people have also visited mediums and not been able to get their fortune told. When you're booking ask what you can expect from the reading, if you're hoping to have your fortune told, ask!

I'm not advertising myself, but as an example I am a Psychic medium but I don't do fortune telling, I have no problem telling people they when they book as an appointment would be a waste of the customers and my time. Make sure you're seeing someone who can supply the service you are looking for and you're less likely to be disappointed.

Best of Luck to all looking for readings!

I have to disagree with you, I think they are exactly the same as neither of them require evidence to support their claims & abilities.

First Frowzy, thank you for pointed this out; I am finding this confusion to be extremely common and clients can be disappointed if they are looking for one and get the other.

As a Psychic, I am at my best at reading the energy around people and helping them sort their issues; I can do some fortune telling but usually in the context of those issues.

While I actually have a good deal of trance training, in my professional life as a psychic the most I can offer is to use cards or other "in-direct" means of getting messages from the departed as in "lets see if your Grandfather IS trying to tell you something?" but I make no claims to talk directly to the Dead (nor do I offer that as a service).

I mostly don't even mention my trance training, except in a Norse religious context which is not something I do as a professional but as part of my personal religious practice.

I actually had a problem with one of the Irish alternative listing boards because you had to list as a "psychic-medium" and they simply refused to separate them, it was both or nothing. I tried to explain they were related (and often do go together) but they just didn't really want to hear it, it was just "easier" to have the one listing.

Archicraft - there is a Skeptics corner where your comments would probably be seen more favorably than on this section of the forum but I'm not a moderator so that isn't my call to make.
