Hi all bout two months ago i bought a 01 2.0 petrol Santa Fe it had the emission light on the dash and i was told that it was the exhaust sensor co2 sensor i believe. Anyhow i put a new battery into the key fob and it worked yah then i put a new battery in the car too over the last week or so i noticed a few times flat spots like loss of power then new years day the key fob so i was back using the key then on my way home tonight coming off the roundabout it died nothing tried to bump it in second gear while rolling but to no avail got it off the road and when i looked at the dash the emissions light was out and she would not start anyone got any ideas

Well changing the battery in either the key fob or car didn't cause this problem. As far as I'm aware that model doesn't have a immobiliser I'm open to correction tho. There's only two problems well three that would cause the car to stop like that on the road. 1 would be faulty crankshaft sensor. 2 would be fuel pump gone. 3 would be the timing belt snapped.

+1 For crankshaft sensor. Often get contaminated by timing belt dust due to their situation behind the timing belt where the reluctor wheel is situated. A diagnostic plug in whilst cranking would establish if there is a signal coming from the crank sensor. Common enough. Car wont start without that signal. However problem usually manifests itself as intermittent non start symptoms as opposed to flat spots in acceleration/power. A diagnostic is defo the way forward sir.

Had it at the mechanic today and he told me no spark so i took it home he told me he had it on the diagnostic computer and he told no spark what he didn't tell me was that the computer didn't pick up the car so its sitting outside and i decided to have a look and remembering the basics decided to check the fuses under the bonnet low and behold a ten amp fuse fir the ecu gone replaced and first turn of the key she fired up whooo and cost me nothing
