New car smell air fresheners

Is there a reason that no matter how many different air fresheners in a car I've tried, none of them smell like new car smell. In most cases, absolutely nothing like it.

Anyone prescribe me one that actually does ?

The new car scent is a culmination of smells from all the new materials along with the manufacturing of the car. For some reason, it's fairly hard to reproduce this smell but Chemical Guys new car scent is the closest I've seen.

Should people be allowed fake the new car smell? There is a moral dimension to this.

    Such as?

Why should someone who hasn't purchased a new car get one of the benefits? Somehow it doesn't seemright to me.

I go out and spend 25k and someone else gets it for 5 euros?

I really, really hope you are taking the piss...

I am, but it is vaguely reminiscent of people who knowingly purchase fakes but pass them off as the real thing.

That's some air freshener that can repair wear and tear on car parts and components.

I think the numberplate would be sufficient enough to let any perspective buyer know that the car wasn't knew rather than a smell inside the car.

Bear in mind that the "new car smell" may be a concoction of chemicals that are harmful to your health. Linky

Indeed, OP would only be fooling himself.

All the OP wants is to have his car interior smell good :P

It could be argued that this was the whole cause of the boom. Wanting the benefits of a new car but not wanting to pay for them...

It's the same idea of burning scented candles, but I don't get the "new car smell". It just smells like plastic and chemicals and I don't like it. Give me sweet strawberry anyday over that. Or pine tree smell :)

I suppose you like the vanilla vomit smelling trees too do ya?! :pac:

I have the CG new car scent but to be honest, I much prefer the black ice tree things. DOn't have anything like that in my current car as it still has REAL new car smell :D

New Car Scent is the only magic tree smell I buy, i cant stand strawberry, vanilla, etc. The wife had a "poe peri" (no idea how to spell it) air freshener in her car one day, had to fire it out the window 5 minutes into our journey, it was making me sick.

IMO, Chemical Guys New Car Scent is rotten...got a bottle a few years back and used it once...perhaps they've updated it since.

I don't usually use any scent in the car...neutral, no smell works for me ;) but it was hard to beat the smell of Poorboys Natural Dressing...mmmmmm :)

Stripper Scent is unreal how well it lives up to its name :D but wouldn't use it myself :p

It's probably grim because you're spraying too much of it. It's very strong and they recommend that you only give 1 quick spray underneath the front seats every so often.

In China people really dislike new car smell and since all air fresheners come from there no chance you will find what you want.

reminded me of this i seen a while back, i know its from wiki but wth n nothin to do with air freshners:rolleyes:... so why am i postin it:)
    "
A two-year study[5] released in 2001 by the CSIRO in Australia found several health problems associated with these chemicals. CSIRO research scientist, Dr Stephen Brown, reported anecdotal accounts of disorientation, headache, and irritation in some drivers of new cars. He measured pollutant levels in new cars that were sufficient to cause similar effects within minutes in controlled experiments by other researchers. Chemicals found in the cars included the carcinogen benzene, two other possible carcinogens cyclohexanone and styrene, and several other toxic chemicals.
A more recent study in Japan found that the volatile organic chemicals in a new minivan were over 35 times the health limit the day after its delivery. In four months they had fallen under the limit but increased again in the hot summer months, taking three years to permanently remain below the limit. The limits were set by the Japanese health ministry in response to more car owners suffering from sick building syndrome. A Daily Telegraph article[6] on the study described the enjoyment of new car smell as "akin to glue-sniffing".
However, a 2007 study by toxicologist Jeroen Buters at the Technical University of Munich in Germany and his colleagues, published in the journal Environmental Science & Technology found little toxicity in new car odors."

I actually gave it one small spray under one seat, that was enough for me.

New car smell is mainly as a result of clean upholstery.

My girlfriend recently bought a car but the previous owner was a smoker and the smell inside was horrible.

She gave the interior a proper going over (I mean it took 2 days to dry). Washed all the seats with some purpose made fabric/upholstery cleaner and cleaned all the plastics with son of a gun and it smelled like new. Still does

I like the Magic Tree New Car Scent, but it doesnt smell anything like a new car though.

However I have realised that the Aldi Fabric Cleaner (their version of febreze) if sprayed on the seats and carpet give a similar smell to a new car once its settled in.

They dont always have it, its only when they have there cleaning stuff in.

Lidl do one as well which is always there but it doesnt work as well, probably kills other bad smells but doesnt have the same affect as the Aldi one. Next time its in im buying 3 bottles.

I guess the Febreze one could work as well if not better, but im too tight to pay for premium brand to find out :P

Don't worry....was thinking back to the days when I was a near penniless young lad and the car was far from new :D
