I posted this in DIY during the week and got no replies so hopefully someone here can advise me...

i was cleaning out the attic today and as i was doing so i checked the fascia sofit for vents as they are on the outside in the white plastic but guess what there is nothing inside... Its just timber and no vents/holes...
Whats the best plan of action? What size hole should i drill in the sofit and how often...
I noticed that the attic does sweat and have condensation, i'm guessing its as a result of this....

    Any help is appreciated...

    Cheers...

The ventilation details can be found in the diagram below. Assuming its a standard roof/attic as you will see you are required to have ventilation equivalent to a 10mm wide strip for the full length of the soffit.

So for example if your soffit is 14 metre long which is 14,000mm then you will require an area of 140,000mm2. That sounds big when you see in mm2 but it equates to 0.140m2.

    Or you can calculate it in sq. metres - 14.00 x 0.001 = 0.140m2

You will have to remove the vent grills and bore holes/cut slots in the wooden soffit. A 100mm x 75mm (4" x 3") hole for example has an area of 7500mm2 so you will need 19 of them to meet the requirements.

Hope I done the maths right???
