if that's an st200 mondeo its rare enough to qualify for a mention here.

that said tho if they're rare now imagine how hard it will be to find a genuine article in 2030

so is that officially the end of the affair with the tinas?

exactly my thinking...buy now at the bottom of the market (€2400 delivered) they can only go up in value...St200 63000 miles...

yep Cortinas now in my past...

They never will... not for another 18 years at least if these tax rates continue. In a similar manner to every other 'big engined' car in this country, most of them will end up in scrapyards long before they're eligible for classic status. Any you will be likely to see by that time at car shows etc. will probably have been imported from the UK.

Being such a smug advocate of paying extortionate motor tax rates in this country, how does that future grasp you?

all i can say is , go and price a Sierra Cosworth , previous generation and price through the roof. So back a few years and price a Lotus Cortina, you'd get a house cheaper...

The more that get scrapped will make mine worth more and mine is first-day irish (as is the ST170)

Well I tell you what, best of luck waiting two decades for the most part for your car to 'shoot through the roof' in value.

As an enthusiast myself personally, I hope to see as many examples of a car I like survive as possible. I wouldn't be selfish enough to only cherish the example I own and hope there are none left for anyone else.

it will be rather interesting to see how well the modern cars age in comparison to the older simpler machines like the cortina

I think my argument against you was contructive enough not to be considered trolling. While I may not be a regular user on here, I have read your elevated posts before regarding motor tax amongst another things and merely decided it was time to say what I thought. You may not have liked it, but that is still not enough to warrant it being described as trolling.

    Now, I'm finished.

exactly my POV...would that you could pick up a perfect low mileage V6 Capri for shirt buttons like you could 10 years ago! (I know someone who sold a mint 1980 3.0Ghia for £600 way back then..)

Good luck with the car Corktina, have to say the current road tax setup is deplorable so I understand the dissention, I'm only waiting for the greens and whoever else to knock on the door again( and so are the dogs)... I gave away a 2.3 190E (literally), scrapped my '02 3.2 166 (one owner...me / like the 190 I couldn't afford the tax on it and wasn't prepared to hand it over for the money on offer ) and am livid that the local councillor drives his brand spanker 3 litre for feck all because of emissions while I'm being raped in a 99 1.6 multipla (broke as a toy at christmas these days) but with the prices that the post '83 big motors are going for I'm sorely temped every day to buy one- even factoring in the tax its nearly worth it.....

yep, easier to look after a cortina at home than the modern computery front drives...with airbags, awkward front subframes damned lambda senors and every other kinda doodad.. I think if the moderns are going to be worth anything they might need to go in a carcoon soon after they're born?

I have three ordinary Capris 1600s that cost less than £1000 for the three at the time. One is a spares car but still, it was good value in 2001!
Been literally years since iv seen them though as they are hemmed in by other crap!

A red 00 ST200 was scrapped in my local scrappy lately. I was too late to 'harvest' it though as it was 2 cars up and disembowelled by the time i got to it.:(
