My friends house is located in a saorview blackspot. He doesnt want to pay for sky as its only a holiday house yet would need rte. He is not a big tv fan so has no interest in free satellite channels, just RTE.
How much would a dish and LNB suitable for saorsat cost (located in north mayo)
Is it just the standard saorview box that is needed?
What is it like to pick up? I can align a sky dish no problem. IS the saorsat
    harder to align or ?

See Saorsat in the Satellite Forum
    also http://www.saortv.info/satellite-saorsat/ and sub menus

It needs a 80cm Dish (90cm to 110cm and 2nd LNB if you want UK Freesat HD TV too).

    You need a Ka LNBF

You need a DVB-S2 HD satelliite Receiver with MHEG5. Some Humax Foxsat HD models with 3rd party plugins are good solution for Freesat + Saorsat. You need 2 x Diseqc switches or a Multiswitch too to have Freesat + Saorsat

A "Saorview" box won't work at all.

They have no interest in additional channels, just rte so 80cm dish, Ka band LNB and DVB-S2 HD satelliite Receiver with MHEG5.

Expensive enough setup for few channels but they are kinda snookered.

Will look at sat forum, thanks

The only extra Irish channels missing are TV3 & 3E. In UK, it's not up to BBC or Freesat who is not a UK channel broadcasts. Any channel can book carriage from Eutelsat or SES and then Pay for Freesat EPG.

So there is no reason for any other TV companies outside Ireland to pay to be on a Free To Air (no subscription) platform that only maybe 3% to 10% will ever receive.

82% in Ireland have Pay TV. Virtually everyone can get Freesat. That's why anyone needing Saorsat should have a slightly larger dish dual (or 3 or 4) feed system.

The main purpose is to backup transmitter feeds.

Complain to BAI and TV3 and your TD that 3e and TV3 are not carried. It's not RTE's fault. TG4 are on it. The cost compared with Terrestrial carriage is small.

TG 4 IS on SAORSAT, only TV3 and 3e are not.

Just wondering if your friend is really in a saorview blackspot? Theres a high chance if he already has a UHF aerial it is directed at an obsolete deflector in Mayo and simply needs turning towards either Truskmore (Sligo) or Achill/Castlebar. Truskmore is the favourite bet on Saorview in North mayo.

I tried, pro installer tried and its also shown as a blackspot on the saorview website.
The house is under a hill blocking one transmittor and there is a distant mountain blocking achill the installer said.
