Paulaner Oktoberfest alternative?

Can anyone recommend a beer that is similar to last years Paulaner Oktoberfest brew? Since it was a limited run I cant get it anywhere now and it was delicious. I'm talking about the clear golden beer, not the cloudy weissbeer they also had.

I know they sell the weissbeer over here but do they do a similar crisp beer like the golden one they had? Or do any other companies sell a beer that might be similar in crispness and taste?

Spaten's Oktoberfest still seems to be around, and it's fantastic.

I think that the Erdringer Oktoberfest edition should still be easy enough to get and is similar enough to the Paulaner Oktoberfest, but nicer, IMO.

Would that not be a weissbier? The OP is looking for an Oktoberfest lager.

Well it is clear and golden in colour and and they do taste pretty similar, but fair point, Erdinger is classed as a weisse alright.

This year's "Paulaner Oktoberfest" that was available on draught was their 4.8 or 4.9% munich helles lager. It was not really an oktoberfest/marzen at all. Similar beers that are available all year round include Spaten, Augustiner and Hofbrau.

Wally from Grand Cru beers imports it. Devenney's in Dundrum have it and I'm sure a few others sell it. Drinkstore normally have it but it's not listed on their website at the minute. I'd assume they'd get it in for you no problem.
Prices per bottle might be around €3.

Yep, can be got. I have 6 cases looking at me in the warehouse right now in Galway so I imagine those in Dublin/Dundalk should have some as well.

I heard Spaten was really good this year as well.

yup, for some reason Spaten oktoberfest was REALLY good this year. Would have stocked up but for the fact that I managed to acquire 40 bottles of Augustiner Oktoberfest.

You would think the breweries would have the same recipe every year but they dont, and better still it seems they serve different beer again in the tents at the Oktoberfest judging by the fact that Augustiner beer at the Oktoberfest and their festbeer in bottles are 2 different strengths.

    Here you go ..

    or alternatively

the clear (filtered) wheat beers are called Weizen Kristall.

    "from wikiepdia"
German wheat beers are called "Weizen" (wheat) in the western (Baden-Württemberg) and northern regions, and "Weißbier" or "Weiße" (white beer or white) in Bavaria. Hefeweizen (the prefix "Hefe" is German for yeast) is the name for unfiltered wheat beers, while Kristallweizen ("Kristall" being German for crystal) is the same beer filtered.

Was the draught the same as the bottle too?

I'm going to have a drive around today and get some of the beers mentioned. First I'll look in Tescos per madhatter76 to see if they have any Paulaner left. Then I'm going to check out Molloys or O'Briens to see if I can get Spaten Oktoberfest, or some augustiner or Hofbrau.

I finished off some bottles of Erdinger Kristall last night on recommendation of a friend and while it was nice it wasn't the same as the Paulaner. Am I correct in thinking that all Weissbiers are cloudy in colour and all the clear lagers are Kristall?

No. Kristall is a weissbier that has been filtered.

Might sound suspicious but I got a whopping (!!!) headache after drinking Erdinger Oktoberfest. Never drank more than 2 bottles of it and that was all I drank on the day and I was suffering afterwards, something didn't agree with me.

I much prefer Erdinger than other Weissbiers (except Schneider Weisse Kristall).

Also two bottles of Curaim wheat beer on recommendation of a friend.
