Vintage 1" Headset Problem

    Hi Guys
My headset is on the way out. It has "indexed" . Times its slack and times its tight. I tried to adjust it , no use

I took the forks out of the bike and the bottom cup and cone housings are well marked. Bearings are also in poor shape. Top cup and cone appear to be fine

Now the problem: Its a Shimano 600 Ultegra HP-6400 from about 1988 or so.

Is there any chance of getting a new set of bearings, bottom cup and cone for this headset or is it a forget about it job ? Id like to keep the headset as the rest of the bike is all Shimano 600 Ultegra (Tri Colour)
Seen a brand new old stock headset on the bay but it will be €160 before I get it.

To get me back on the road I just got a 5/32" bearing cage from Halfords and packed it full of grease but thats no solution

    Any way out fellas ?

Replace your headset with one of these...or dig around for one more expensive if you like, still plenty of options out there for 1" headsets
