    Hi All

I have been on the world snooker website but ticket info for the Grand Finals in March is not available, Im sure it will be available soon but can anyone here give me some info on what the ticket prices were last year? I missed the event last year but is the case that in the early rounds of the grand finals that people can view diffrent matches and be able to walk around? Also is there anyone that was at the final itself as i would be eager to attend this. Anyone have an idea of how much the tickets are for that?

Also where is the closest hotel or BnB to the venue

Be great to be able to meet all the players!!

    :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

there is just the one table where all the matches are on a roll on and off the basis, the tickets will cost u no more then 20euro for a session. Dont have any idea about the accomodation. think the tickets go on sale in the middle of this month

You just buy them from NUI direct there in the hall where the snooker is on was €10 for a whole afternoon session if i remember. Just rock up on the first day and buy your lot from there, That's what im planning on doing.

Watch the clampers down onsite they have eyes everywhere!

Yep - You can sit anywhere you like...that is the beauty about it! you will see loads of the players and ref's in the ajoining bar or walking around campus.. i did anyways. Had a nice chat with Tom Ford last year.. sound bloke!

Cnt wait can tickets be bought on the day? Would love to meet ken doherty

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,030 ✭✭✭_Puma_

The Fixtures and the Draw. I'm thinking of booking the Friday off work and going for the full day. Did the same last year and it was great value for the games that were played!

From what I remember the tickets could be bought for the weekday games at the hall but the friday evening Saturday and Sunday were booked out

can't wait myself, dont know if its a few days off work or going to the snooker, perhaps a mix.

The tickets can be bought at the desk in the main hall, the semis and final might be sold out not sure..
(I think students of NUI get a discount, if you know anyone there?)

Just to let you know, Ken Doherty is actually playing an exhibition on March 21st @ The Newbury Hotel in Mullingar, Westmeath. Tickets available from Hotel at just €10. Exhibitions are a great way to meet the pros.

Its OK, I got the info at the this link.

Nice to see Joe Swail back, interesting article about him on World Snooker website. He will be playing in the last match of the opening session on Tuesday.
Ken will be playing in the evening session on Wednesday

I have a few spare tickets to the morning session tomorrow. Great session. If anyone wants them, drop me a message, I can meet you at NUIG. Throw me a fiver or a sambo or something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75 ✭✭ev612337

I have all day tickets for the Sunday and they have row & seat numbers on them.

Someone said you can sit anywhere, is that true? i.e. get there early or you'll not get a good seat?

Also, does anyone have a floor plan or seating layout? In case my tickets seat assignment is enforced, I'd like to figure out where I'll be in advance

    Thanks

Here all day since 10am. Hoping to see Joe Swail but have to leave now. Robertson v Burnett is very slow. 3-2 to Neil now. poor match. pretty boring.

great win for joe swail over stephen maguire, joe now faces mark allen on thursday :)

Managed to give away those tickets. Was more difficult than I anticipated. Final and Semi Final tickets are allocated seating, for whoever was asking.

I now have two spare tickets to the final to sell, two people bailed on me. 20 euro each, can meet in Galway.

Trump gone, Higgins gone, Selby gone, Doherty gone... crumbs... I've got a semis/final ticket but no travel or accommodation yet... I sure hope I don't go to all that hassle and expense for something like and Alfie Burden v Kurt Maflin final... not meaning to be disrespectful or anything... but a guy likes a bit of glamour in his snooker.....

Watched all the matches bar the Allen-Swail match as it was too late for me to watch. Some really dodgy games in there to be honest. The McGill match had some very poor standards.

A chuckled a bit when I read the headlines on worldsnooker.com for Allen-Swail match though:

ding v allen in quarter final :)

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 17,150 Mod ✭✭✭✭cherryghost

Funny, because so far in the finals I can only see Ding or Allen winning it. Robertson has been a bit iffy at times and I don't see the other 5 making an impact. I reckon the winner of Ding/Allen will go on to win outright.

    147!!

Ding just called a foul on himself after Michaela didn't see it. You wouldn't see sportsmanship like that in any other sport let me tell you.

There's been a lot made of the timetable on the blogs and on twitter - it seems to be a bit of a mess, what with one or two matches not beginning until after midnight!

Also it's a shame to see absolutely zero reporting on the irish times and independent websites. Is there any mention of it on rte/tv3? I don't know how snooker will grow in Ireland when it is practically non-existent in the national media.

Agree with all this. Media coverage has been very very poor unfortunately. Turnout looks to be lower than last years too but that's only going by what I can see and nothing more. And I might also add that the standard has been very average this week. The Ding vs Allen match was fantastic, everything else has been a bit of a letdown. How Maflin is in the semi's I'll never know.

My money is on Ding now to win outright. He's played some great stuff and the 147 was great to watch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,805 ✭✭✭Setun

Yeah I noticed that turnout looks a bit miserable. What happened with the tournament at DCU a few years ago? I thought that went pretty well, or am I mistaken? It's a real shame about the lack of support by the Irish Times etc - I know they will only report on a sport that a large demographic are interested in, but it really is hard to see the sport growing here without mainstream publicity.

I haven't seen Ding play this week as I've only had time to keep up with the blog reports, but from what they're saying I think you're right about him going the distance unless Robertson sorts himself out today.

And ding comes from 3 zip down to win 4-3 !
Great final and a great atmosphere, well done Galway see ya next year hopefully! :-)

  • Good to see so many of the worlds top players in Galway. Very large TV audiences over the course of the week aswel. Great comeback from Ding to win it.

great tournament great to meet all the players so down to earth hope its back next year on tuesday and wednesday night was very big was great to see and your certain of getting a quality seat

Was at the saturday morning session. Got to see the 147 and that was a great match. T Ford and Fu not so good.
I will say that I thought it was poorly organised around the event. We turned up at the same carpark as last year and there were zero spaces due to a large rowing event taking place. Perhaps there was another carpark but there were no marshals or anybody to direct people to where they could park. It just gave the impression that the tournament wasnt wanted. In the entrance lobby, there was a student canteen place with all shutters down when it was the obvious location for sales of drinks, chocolate etc.
