I have two. One purely swim drills which is ok: The Swimming Drill Book by Ruben Guzman.

I also have an excellent book, detailing technique, training and program design. This book is huge, 790 pages and very detailed: Swimming Fastest by Ernest W. Maglischo

It's not a swimming instruction book per se but I'm currently reading Swim- Why We Love the Water by Lynn Sherr. It's a great read, only published last year I think. Covers the whole history of swimming and includes everything from Weissmuller to phelps to total immersion to the authors own efforts to swim the Hellespont. Strongly recommended.

    Thanks for the feedback
@madm, I live in the Blanchardstown area so in dublin I might take you up on the offer of the dry land training book.
I purchased this book off Amazon last night as it had good reviews and it was waterproof and I could take it directly to the poolside, Ill let you know how I get on with it.

I'm a big fan of the SwimSmooth book - identifies 6 types of swimmer (I'm an overglider!), what they're doing wrong and gives drills to work on. Breaks down the stroke quite nicely.

anything from swim smooth would be good i'd say. didn't realise they had a book must check it out. their weekly email subscription is excellent for tips and drills too
