Do you have a "good" tripod & head & what is it?

I have a decent tripod (3 legged thing) and thier head for the past year. The leges are decent, but i have had some problems with the head. Luckily the 3legged Thing team have been nothing but awesome in helping me get my issues sorted.

The tripod does well for hiking, it weighs less than 1.4kgs and folds up to a neat 45cm.

with my %D MkII & 24-70 f2.8 USM it is pretty stable, and although wind is not its friend, its still pretty decent in windy weather.

Problem is i still dont trust the ballhead. Ive been considering for some time just biting the bullet and getting a lifetime tripod, something from the gitzo range & a very good ballhead.

I dont know if something 3 times the price will perform noticeably better in windy situations, and be portable, for air-planes, long hikes etc.

So, im wondering what do you guys have, is it worth the money and what issues, if any do you have with it?

I'm still using the gen 1 ballhead that came with my Kirk, and I've never had an issue with either. I briefly used my 3LT with my Manfrotto pistol grip head, but the ballhead gave much finer control.

I've used mine with a variety of loads, and in some rubbish conditions, and found it far more stable than my old Manfrotto. If you're having wind stability issues, 3LT does a large canvas thingy to hold rocks etc, or you can do what I usually do; just hang the camera bag from the ballast hook at the bottom. No moving it then.
