Mac not recognising external sound source

Self explanatory title. When I connect my MBP to my HDMI TV via the appropriate adapter and try change the Output Device (holding option and clicking on the volume icon) there is no other option other than 'Internal Speakers'. But it gets a little bit stranger, as I connect it to another HDTV and all works fine and it is recognised. On that TV the mirrored display is at a very peculiar aspect ratio which I can't change (I've tried in both the MBP and TV settings). Is there any way I can fix this? Seems like I have to sacrifice one or the other. :(

I've tried multiple things like unplugging the TV and turning it back in whilst the cable is disconnected from the TV, restarting the MBP and even trying a different HDMI cable. None of which gave me anything sound-wise.

Discard this post, all is well and good now, strangely enough.
