You never mentioned a budget but this looks good, it's windows 8 but there are programmes out there that can make 8 function like 7.

Lenovo. They've been around for quite a while, they took over IBM's PC business.

It's gonna be pretty difficult to find one that comes with windows 7 now, I've been doing a lot of looking around and most laptops are being shipped with windows 8 now.

I'm still on windows XP myself as well. For that price though you'll get a very good laptop.

Here's the one I'll be buying:

Another one I was looking at:

Both have 3rd gen core i5 CPU, 8 GB Ram, 1 Tb hard drive, Usb 3.0

You can make windows 8 pretty similar to windows 7. I'm kinda dreading having to get use too it but I think once you fiddle around with it for a while you may start to like it.

My first choice would be Asus. I find them very reliable. I bought one about 5 years ago, with Vista Business on it. I eventually got rid of Vista and installed Windows 7 on it. The difference was pretty amazing. Today, it's still as good as new. That isn't my only experience with Asus. I work in IT, and Asus is what I would recommend to my clients.

    Something like this:

That price is pretty good for the specs this laptop has. It has Windows 8, though. I can imagine it'll become more difficult to get Windows 7, since Microsoft are going to be pushing Win 8 sales...

That's the one I'll be going for. Have a toshiba at the moment that's after lasting me about 9 years. Think it's about time I upgraded haha

Have you had any experience with that model?

Not with that specific model, no, but I see it got some really good reviews. With those specs and that price, you can't really go wrong. The only thing that could really top it would be an i7 processor, but the i5 is an excellent compromise for that price, I think. The video chip / GPU (Nvidia GT 610 M) isn't great; it's basically an entry level chip, but that would only be a problem with gaming (i.e. it might not be able to support some of the more demanding, graphic intensive games).

Toshiba is good too, would probably be my second choice.

I won't comment on Dell or Apple. Personally, I'm not a big fan at all...

The i5 will do me just fine, considering I was prepared to go for a 2nd gen i3 beforehand.
Won't be needing it for gaming really anyway. It's nice to have it there but I really doubt I'll be using it much.
    Really is a good deal!
