Hi All, new to Boards.ie - wondering if anyone can tell me where to locate or how I might change out a camshaft sensor on my 02 Nissan Almera engine. Engine management light comes and goes, car fails to start after long journeys etc,.. Plugging into a dignostic tool I'm told the fault is camshaft sensor....Any ideas or suggestions ?? Cheers.

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but the cam chains are known to stretch on these and afaik an early symptom of this is an intermittent error from the cam position sensor as the camshaft goes slightly out of phase with the crankshaft. The sensor may not be dodgy.

As above. It is probably a timing chain problem. I have lost count of the number of Almeras I have seen with this fault code and only once have I ever seen a faulty cam sensor on one.

nissan did a recall on these sensors years ago and i think its was causing non starting. the crankshaft sensor was being replaced too.

Thanks for your input folks. Found some helpful tips on youtube on how to check sensor with a multimeter so will do this first as it easy to access the sensor. I hear what your saying about the timing chain and beleive this is probably the most likely problem. Anyone any idea how complicated it is to change one out ?? I'm not a mechanic but know enough about car part locations and the importance of TDC when it comes to timimg issues.....cheers
