I have noticed that there is no live FA cup football for Setanta on Saturday, does anyone know if they still own the rights particularly at 3pm?

They aren't scheduling any FA Cup games this weekend so I would assume that means no rights of any kind

Setanta don't have any rights to the FA Cup, ESPN and ITV hold the rights in UK and Ireland.

Setanta do show Premier League 3pm kick offs though.

This a real shame, last season they showed all games that were on ITV but also showed games at 3pm on Saturdays.

ITV showing Brighton V Newcastle at 12.30 on Saturday and then West Ham V Man United at 17.15.

On Sunday ESPN showing the two games - Swansea v Arsenal at 13.30 and then Mansfield V Liverpool at 16.00

I already new that, however it is the 3pm kick offs that Setanta allway's
showed that I will miss most.

The 3pms are EPL games.they have the rights for those but not FA cup.

The point I was making was that for the last number of seasons they also had the FA cup.

Well, if ITV are showing the games, just add an ITV region to Other Channels and watch them.
    UTV are showing them

    10906 V
    22000
    5/6

Yes but there will be no FA cup 3pm kick off's as was shown on Setanta for the last several seasons.

    Moved to Broadcasting

Yeah, as noted elsewhere I don't know why Setanta have dropped this - though its worth noting that last season their coverage was heavily scaled back - they mostly took the world feed without any analysis - the third round Manchester derby was one of the few games they did do some studio analysis for.

As for the 3pm KOs, well it is well documented at this stage, the English, Scottish, and (Northern) Irish FAs do not allow the broadcasting of 3pm KOs in their respective territories other than the respective Cup Finals themseleves, in order to protect attendances at lower league matches.

Anyway, Soccer Saturday I'm afraid for the coverage of the 3pm KOs. There are four live matches this weekend - Brighton and Hove Albion v Newcastle United (UTV now), West Ham United v Manchester United (5:30pm today on UTV), Swansea City v Arsenal (ESPN tommorow at 1:30pm) and Mansfield Town v Liverpool (ESPN tommorow at 4:00pm) so that's plenty of live football all of which is available to most subscribers of UPC.

As far as I'm aware Setanta's contract for the FA Cup was the same as the original contract which Setanta GB signed with the FA, that ended in May 2012, they also stopped showing England games as well at the same time. The Irish rights also included a 3pm game.

thanks for that info... didnt realise that was the reason why.

Setanta must be in fiancial trouble.

All they have is Europa League Second choice match, champions league football, 3pm Premier League and a few Airtricty matches.

I know they show Italian football aswell.

I wouldnt be surprised that they will lose the US Masters golf and Formula1.

Their coverage is very bare doesnt seem to be much live action during the week or the weekend.

I think the Rabo Pro 12 rights will be up soon and id say Setanta will go all out to get them back, in fairness they did a brilliant job wen they had the live rights

I wonder will they? ... I would say their priority is to retain the 3pm premiership games and looking at the way prices have gone up all over the world for renewal this time, they will probably need to pay at least another 50% than what they got them for last time. I just dont think the investors in Setanta have the willingness (or money) to make it anything other than what it is now really, just breaking even.

Very much hope they don't get rights back. Having FTA rugby is a real boon for fans at present. After Setanta UK collapsed Setanta Ireland showed live matches in Scotland that Scottish viewers couldn't see. I presume if they won rights back this time it would mean end of both BBCNI and RTE/TG4 contracts and not include matches outside Ireland e.g. Scotland.

There is one more full season remaining on the Pro 12 deal, so that won't be up for discussion till next autumn really.
