    Hi all,

My lady has about 650 max to spend on a laptop. No gaming now or ever. No Photoshop now or ever. Just webmail, Youtube, DVD Movies, Photo viewing etc....

This HP model in PCWorld has been suggested to me.

Any thoughts ? Is an i3 fine ? should I try for an i5 ? Is Hp a reliable make ?

Argos have some models on special offer but I know 'nothing' about laptops or the chips they use :( I guess her priority is style/price/longevity/reliability. And she wants to be able to carry it on trips back home abroad.

Any help would be really appreciated :)

Looks great to me for what you want to do. An i3 or even better an i5 is perfect.

A 15 inch is big to transport lots. That's about all you could reconsider, screen size. Doesn't have a HDMI port from what I can see which isn;t important unless you want to connect it to a tv

Thanks for that. I can't see here ever connecting to a tv to be honest. I agree about the 15" but I think that coming down from a desktop might mean she would find a smaller screen unbearable ... but I will see if there is an i5 version...

    Tks again.

The one you linked to is an i5.

It has an i5-3210M. For €500 on spec alone it looks like great value.

    Good stuff.

I am very conscious of the practice of special 'sale' stock being brought in by sellers like PCWorld .... making claims of big reductions while selling models with old design motherboards or other hidden flaws....
