Hi, just wondering what type of cars you might advise to get for a second hand car. I'm a single Dad so it had to be a diesel, around 1.4L and need something reliable with space in the boot for my 2 year old son's bike and other toys. Budget is around the 5k mark. Any advice is much appreciated!

Are you doing enough miles to make a diesel cheaper to own?

Yes, I'll be commuting to and from work and we take it in turns to drop off our son.

He'll be fun to deal with - bet he siphons the fuel out before handing the car over!

Forget the bulb. The guy has seat covers and 15" alloys as featuures

He will be recovering air from the tires at that rate.

Generally I would not consider the 307 a reliable car, now not all of them give problems but I wouldn't take the chance on one.

An Astra estate is worth a look at, plenty of space and available in 1.3 diesel:

Very limited in what you can get in diesel restricting it to 1.4 litre.

Have to say i prefer your 307 choice over that astra. In terms of reliability they are close to the same tbh. Looks and comfort the 307 wins.

As with any car buy on condition and with a reasonable history.

    307 looks clean.

OP, avoid those 1560cc (1.6) diesel engines in 2005/2006/2007 pugs/focus's/citroens ....a terrible unit that will break you heart and empty your wallet.

if you could stretch the budget, these are better (engine-wise) than any opels too ...
