I have the above laptop. I know it is like a dinosaur of laptops but really cannot afford to get a new one. Would it be possible to up grade this in relation to extra ram etc or is it too old?

Crucial.eu's memory advisor is telling me it can take a maximum of 4GB DDR2 RAM.

How much RAM is in it at the moment? If you're not sure, go to Control Panel --> System.

You can get the RAM from a fair number of places, Crucial.eu and memoryc.ie are places I've bought from before. Installing the RAM is in most cases very easy. Normally, RAM will be under a panel secured by screws at the bottom of the laptop. There should be plenty of video tutorials around for this if you're not sure how to do it.

Run CCleaner and give it a defrag if it hasn't got one in the last few months.

Update: So i bought 2x 2gb of ram and installed them today. put one in first and said ram had gone up to 1.87gb then installed 2nd one however it now says ram is at 2.87gb. I know it would never say 4gb but I would imagine that this is wrong?

There is a noticeable improvement in the laptop.

Glad to hear it! Does your laptop have an integrated GPU? It might have a fixed amount of memory allocated to it, check your BIOS for such an option. Sounds a bit weird alright.

Nothing wrong, 128 MB RAM is shared with the video card.

    896 + 128 = 1024

Never mind the System Properties (in 32-bit Windows), important is what you see in the BIOS.

As for Ccleaner and Defrag, they can only do so much, the only cure for Windows rot is a fresh installation. ;)
