    just wondering if it is legal to post a private conversation on a website when you are one of the parties involved.

    Each individual site should have its own privacy policy or terms of use which should yell you yea or nay

    It depends very much on what the conversation contains. Some of the things which could cause legal problems:
    • defamation
    • incitement to break the law
    • incitement to hatred
    • breach of contract (e.g. non-disclosure agreement)
    • breach of court order
    • harassment
