Like Little Garcon 5.00 Wolverhampton 10/1 with Ladbrokes. Very well handicapped, has caught the eye twice this year, breaking slowly last time out over 5 and never nearer. Career low mark and stepped back up to six

I am finding it hard to see it, but I will stick wee few on it (just in case)

BUBBLY BALLERINA could go close 9/1, but SONG OF PARKES could turn out to be a sweet price @ 33/1.

    1.50 Lingfield

    Ballygarvey 7/1

There has already been a little bit of money around for Philip Hobbs's handicap chasing debutant and it's not hard to see why he has been already backed in from 10/1 as I think he could take an awful lot of beating off a mark of 110. Formerly with Henrietta Knight, this former Irish Point To Point winner showed some very useful form over hurdles and I think this unexposed 7 year old certainly has the potential to score off his mark on what is just his 2nd start over the larger obstacles and 2nd start for his current handler. A winner of his last of 4 starts in P2Ps back in 2010, (no great form) he stepped up really nicely on his 3rd start under rules for Henrietta Knight over hurdles when finishing an 11L 2nd behind the very talented and easy winner Broadbackbob at Newbury over 19f in December 2011. Under Will Kennedy, Ballygarvey got into a really nice rhythm as he made all until the 2nd last before being headed by Broadbackbob but he stayed on resolutely to hold 2nd and finish 8L clear of 3rd. In addition to the winner being a very talented horse who had defeated subsequent Supreme Novice winner Cinders And Ashes on his hurdling debut on his previous start, the horses in behind were very good animals as well. The 3rd Carrigmorna King is now a 134 rated chaser/127 rated hurdler and the 4th Same Difference is now a 137 rated hurdler and it was a really nice effort despite being sent off a 125/1 shot. He proved that was no fluke on his next start over 19f at tomorrow's course in January 2012 when again making all to score a little easier than the 1.75L margin suggests and although the form of that race is only ok and nothing special he beat what was in front of him and that is all you can ask.

Ballygarvey had 3 more starts over hurdles for his former handler between March and April when he was pretty disappointing including when pulled up in a handicap hurdle off a mark of 115 at Plumpton on his last start for Knight but I certainly think he was always going to prove a better chaser. On the back of a 6 month absence, Ballygarvey made his stable and chasing debut at the end of October last year over an extended 2m at Taunton on good ground when set a pretty stiff task in the Novices Chase. Held up in midfield, Ballygarvey was hampered at the first flight and his jumping was a little sticky for the first half of the race but he did warm to the task in what was clearly a spin over fences to both gain some experience and indeed blow away some cobwebs. That race has worked out to be very strong with the 2nd Changing Times winning both his subsequent starts over fences including impressively off a mark of 132 whilst the well beaten 3rd Bally Legend followed Changing Times home in 2nd on his only subsequent start in a handicap off a mark of 129. For that effort, Ballygarvey has been assigned an opening handicap mark of 110 which I think looks potentially quite lenient for this former Point winner based on his hurdling form. Ballygarvey is stepped back up to 2m4f which should certainly suit as well as a return to heavy ground which should allow him more time to get into a rhythm. I also think its very interesting that he returns to the track of his only success as Lingfield is not a track that Philip Hobbs visits very often. In the past 5 seasons, Hobbs has only had 9 runners at the track scoring with 3 of those and he has a 1-2 record with his chasers at Lingfield and this represents his only runner of the day. Although there seems as if a couple of horses in the field like to be prominent, I'm hopeful that Ballygarvey is ridden more positively tomorrow as he certainly seemed more at home from the front over hurdles. Tom O'Brien takes the ride tomorrow on what is his only ride of the day tomorrow and with the ground, track and distance all suiting I'm hopeful that Ballygarvey makes a successful start to handicap chases on just his 2nd start for Philip Hobbs to start of 2013 very nicely.

Good luck with him, but as a rule of thumb i never back any Hobbs horse in a beginners chase. They tend to be poor jumpers.

Cheers Ghosttown. Absolutely dotted up although there was a 25p Rule 4.

Slattsy was a handicap chase, not a beginners.

18:30 W'hampton Berlusca if replicating his C&D win last year I fulled expect this very well handicapped horse to win for his new stable. 7/2, is the price for him atm, has been backed in.

    8.20 Dundalk

    Formal Bid 11/1

Although Vincent Ward's Circus Act is a horse I tipped up a couple of starts ago and who I think should definitely run well tonight I fancy Gordon Elliott's 6 year old to run a very big race tonight as he has been running very in defeat of late. Formerly with Charles O'Brien and Joseph Fox, Formal Bid joined Gordon Elliott in April of last year where he started off over hurdles and was pretty disappointing in 5 starts in that sphere but he has been running with great credit on the level for his current connections. Formal Bid had his first flat start for Elliott in October last year over tonight's C+D when running a very good 3rd off a mark of 63 under young 10lb claimer Luke Dempsey on his first flat start in 14 months. Held up in rear, Formal Bid was brought wide to make his challenge coming into the home straight where he stayed on strongly to be a never nearer 2.25L beaten 3rd and it was a very nice effort. The form of that race looks very decent with the winner Raydari going down by a head and a short head on his only 2 subsequent start including off an 11lb higher mark whilst the 2nd Atmospheric High won on his next start off a 3lb higher mark, has won a rated race and has been holding his form off a 10lb higher mark. Raised 1lb to a mark of 64 for that effort, Formal Bid reappeared just 5 days after than good 3rd where he was a very unlucky in running 3.75L beaten 5th over the same extended 1m2f trip in the 50-70 contest. Under Colin Keane, Formal Bid was again held up towards the rear and had made some very good progress through the field and he looked to be coming with a very serious run before running into a wall of horses and stumbling with about 1f to go but he ran on again under tender enough handling to finish a definitely unlucky 5th. Only 2 horses have come out of that race in front of Formal Bid which are Atmospheric High and Bensoon and the latter has run won off the same mark and being beaten a neck off a 6lb higher mark in a better race than this.

Formal Bid was kindly dropped 1lb back to 63 as Gordon Elliott brought him over to Wolverhampton in November as he again ran with great credit but he probably just didn't stay the extended 2m trip. Held up in midfield under Graham Lee, Fomal Bid came with a big run in the home straight and probably just about hit the front inside the final furlong before slightly running out of petrol in the final strides as he dropped back to a length beaten 3rd. Once again, the form of that race looks very strong with the 2nd Gabrial's King winning on his next start off a 3lb higher mark whilst the 5th Six Of Clubs has won both his subsequent starts including off a 5lb higher mark. It was a very nice effort and his turn in the winners enclosure did not look far away. Formal Bid's last start came at Dundalk off a mark of 65 in a very competitive looking 1m4f event in late December last year when he was strongly fancied in the betting (14/1-8/1 on course) but his race did not last very long as he clipped heels and unseated his jockey after about a furlong or so. That race was an awful lot better than what he will be contesting tonight and given that he was very well backed says a lot in my eyes. He drops back into a basement level 47-65 and despite having to shoulder top weight of 10 stone I'd be pretty disappointed if he can't be very competitive in a poor race of this nature. Emmett McNamara takes the ride for the first time and his traditional blinkers and tongue tie are retained. Although his draw in stall 11 isn't ideal, given the fact he comes from off the pace it shouldn't make a huge difference. With Gordon Elliott in belting form in the National Hunt sphere, I'm confident of a big run from Formal Bid which should hopefully see him deservedly land this very poor contest.

Berlusca is racing again at Wolver tomorrow. Think he'll take all the beating but not at 6/4 unfortunately.
