Hey guys, was in KT the other day and saw their leaflets on season racing for the members. Was just wondering if anyone on here does it and if could give be some feedback like skill level, seriousness and some general pointers.

I have done a few amateur races for fun on normal snow but one of my main worries is that i use the skis which they have there which lack and sort of a sharp edge due to the surface wearing it down... so not too sure as to bring my own pair down as they might get destroyed :(

What do you need to know?

In terms of seriousness not very especially with the older Masters (Over 30) guys!

As for equipment yep you will shread your own bases on Dendix and will run the risk over time of railing (Heat from the edges on the plastic melting the Petex) the bases.

Some of the guys will have their skis razor sharp but mostly the younger lads. There is 3 starting points for the races, top of the main slope, half way down the green and at the bottom of the green. GS courses are very relaxed and almost Slalom but with double gates.

I would recommend coming up next Sunday and having a look and a try! There is no pressure or shame and most are very supportive.

Cheers for the reply. I was in KT a week back and was actually (probably) talking to your dad. He loves his 24hrs Salomons too so I can't wait to try them out in the Alps in a few weeks :)

I was worried about the damage to my own skis so that's probably out the window. Would anyone be using the KT skis? Or if possible maybe ask them if I could rent a pair of theirs and get them a little sharpened/waxed for the race?

Or do the Skis have to be to FIS standards? If yes, going against people on them in the KT skis would not end well.

And when you say there are 3 starting points, what do you mean?

And at the moment I'm not a member but was thinking about joining.

    Sorry for the bombardment!

Yep probably my dad all right short lad with grey hair? Who happens to be in chamonix right now :D Yep 24 HR are whopping skis and great for hard charging on piste.

Yeah I will show you the base of Mine or Dads that are serviced weekly and maintained to the highest standard but still get torn apart.
Would anyone be using the KT skis?
A few people do especially the younger kids, even those using their own especially the older ones will not have serviced them! about 5-8 of the over 25's will have them sharp and waxed on race morning.

No FIS Standard required when it comes to club races we are all cheating swines I ski 155 slalom instead of the 165 FIS as it is a shorter turn radius, I would find it hard to justify having €1,300 Factory LAB's on plastic and I get them free!!! The club skis have such round edges it would take you hours to get them sharp!!!

For each course there is 3 starting options. Top of the Green on the main slope, they will then move the gate to half way down the Green as a start point and then at the bottom of the Green.

Best advice is if you can ski from the top go form there and take it handy.

Let me know if you need anything.

Lucky him, hes a sound guy and was very helpful witha few tips here and there! I saw the base of his and wasn't as bad as the KT ones but definitely I just couldn't do that to my brand new 24's. Good to hear about the cheating skis being allowed but thats also a bit of bother because I dont think i can spend money on slaloms just for plastic, infact slaloms full stop. Probably would just borrow theirs unless i can find some better idea.

Hopefully Ill see you there one of the nights. Multicolour squares quicksilver helmet if you see me :)

To be honest I have seen people ski on worse than the club skis at the races! I have seen people do them on twin tips :D:D:D:D:D

If you are stuck i could give you my slalom skis, I rob my dads 155 for the races mine are a little longer. But considerably better than the club skis.

Slalom Skis are epic fun, if I am not on Fat skis I would be on Slaloms, they are the kind of ski where you have to get it right and pay attention. Yep speed is a little limited but they are twitchie!

Yeah You wont miss me when you are there :D Lots of bright

His Skis are 2 seasons old and have gotten a base grind at the start of this season to freshen them up and are serviced every two weeks at worst every month.

Don't think Ill make the next race but the one after. Thanks for the offer with the skis but sure Ill probably just use a pair of the KT skis and try and get the white Rossignols as they are a bit newer than the grey ones and see how I do.
    KT's ?
