Just called Volkswagen Belfast as I want to get a 2nd key cut for the car. Got quoted £135 for the key and £65 for the coding.

Man that stings. Do they really have me by the balls here or is there something else I can do? Are there other people out there or garages that would be able to do this for me?

I had the same problem with a Ford Mondeo. The Ford garage quoted me 220 euro.I had it done by a local locksmith 150 euro and he came to my house to do it. So as the previous post recommends ring a few locksmiths

They quoted me 150-180 before xmas.
Yesterday on phone they quoted 200
Today I get an email quoting £230

    Scumbags.

So yes, I really will be looking for alternatives now.

Did you ask them why you were quoted 3 different prices??

What i have done in your case before is buy a key off ebay with a blank blade and chip. Something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Blank-Uncut-Key-with-chip-Caddy-Golf-Mk5-Golf-Plus-Polo-Touran-Tiguan-T5-/200871451744?pt=UK_Car_Parts_Vehicles_Automobila_ET&hash=item2ec4df1c60 should do. Getting it cut and programed 80quid at the most.

That will just manually unlock the doors and start the car. If you want one with remote locking just buy that type of key.

I sent them an email asking but i'm yet to hear a reply from them. (I did only send it about an hour ago though so i'll just have to be a bit patient)

At this point i'm looking at ordering a key from amazon, get a locksmith to cut it, program it so it opens the doors, and research how to program it with the imobiliser so I can start the car.

Bit of a pain, but at least I havn't lost the only key and am stuck at the moment. I can take a bit of time with it.

ye they did a great job for me too.

however while i was there I asked them about turning on the auto door lock feature on my 06 focus. They said they'd need the car for half a day and it would be fairly expensive as they need to "plug in and scan the system to turn it on"

Bought the cable online and did it in about 30 seconds once I knew what I was at. Was a simple matter of checking a box and clicking save.

How to programme it to lock/unlock the doors is in your owners manual and is pretty simple. Special software is needed to programme it to the immobiliser.

It seems that there are two different types of key for your vehicle and this is why there was confusion on price - but this is no excuse because we should have known this.

Correct price is £225.11 which includes both parts of the key, coding and vat.

I said to them also that I can buy the key myself, have it cut myself, program it to open/close door myself, but where I fall short is the ability to program to the immobilsor and if I could bring it in and have JUST that part done by them. They're not keen on helping.... ugh.

Id be going for the genuine vw key. Any key i've seen done by a locksmith felt cheap and a bit flimsy.

it's only to have as a spare anyway, it's going straight into a drawer somewhere and just sit there should I ever need it.

wuhey, I sweet talked them into it! now I have to find the correct key/ and remote to order.

I believe the parts I need are: (from here)
    1K0 959 753 G - The transmitter (the remote)
1T0 837 246 INB - Main key with variable code transponder

and one of the following transponders... which one is a good question though..

    7M0 837 246 A
    7M0 837 246 B
    7M0 837 246 C
    7M0 837 246 D

Question is... where do I buy these now. lol
