Having awful problems with me rear tyre. Getting loads of punctures and cant seem to find the source of the problem so enough is enough. They are Continental Gator Skins 25mm.

I have a set of Continental Grand Prix 4000s 23mm. Should I swap front and back or can I mix and match?

I would suggest swapping front and rear tyres as a starting point - it should establish whther its a tyre or rim problem, or sort it out altogether

Mixing different types of tyre should not be a problem

What kind of things should I be looking out for to eliminate a rim problem?

Worn or broken rim tape and check for sharp edges. As I suggested though, swapping tyres over should at least allow you to narrow it down to either the rim or tyre

Couldnt get the front tyre off so had to scrap that plan!

I had another look at the rear. On closer inspection the rim tape had slipped exposing some of the spoke holes. Moved it back in place. Hopefully that will sort me

If the edges of the spoke holes have a sharp raised lip you can sand them down with sandpaper.

I was getting mystery tyre explosions through the rim tape from this.
