When i turn the key in my car nothing happens. No lights on the dash even. It will start when it is jumped but if i turn it off and try restart it the same thing happens!! Is it the battery that is at fault??

    Very likely.
How long are you driving it before you turn off and restart?

Could be the battery or the altenator at fault. If the battery is in there a long time it probably wouldn't hurt replacing it as a first step.

I just bought the car so i dont know for sure! I would only be driving it about 10 mins, turn it off, try to restart it and not a peep out of it. Should I leave it running for longer?

Definitely bring it on a longer drive, rev it a good bit. Also look at the key and see if it's worn, if it is, it may be a good thing to get a newer key cut.

If it was the alternator the car wouldn't stay going.

My guess is the battery is absolutely knackered.

Go into a Halfords if there's one near you, they should be able to check the battery for you for free.

If you just bought the car it's possible the last owner or dealer had it idle for some time and the battery is flat. You should try first getting hold of a charger and charging the battery overnight or else take it for a long drive but with the price of fuel the charger option is best.
