Putting the Car Through the NCT

This has probably been done to death, but the car is due for an NCT in mid February, and I was contemplating booking it in early to give me a bit of time to come up with the cash to sort out any repairs etc.

I know the car needs new wiper blades which I'll change, and I also noticed that one of the back tyres has a very small (not noticeable) crack in it, I wonder is it worth replacing them as the tread depth on the tyres are perfect? I assume that it goes without saying they'll definitely spot the crack?

Other than that, would I be best just to put it through and then repair whatever they have said it's failed on (I'm about 99% sure she'll fail, it'll be a miracle if she passes), or should I put it through a pre-NCT check first?

dont bother with a pre NCT, but do get the tyre checked out of common sense, a blow out could kill you and everyone else around you.

I agree 100%, at the moment I just use the car for getting from home to work which is a straight road from Goatstown to Clonskeagh, car isn't under any pressure, the intention was to get it sorted next month, cause I'm pretty broke! Thanks for the reply!

If the car is due a service then get it serviced and ask the mechanic to give it a quick once over to see if they can spot anything obvious.

Other than that do not bother with any of those pre-NCT test gubbins; the NCT will tell you exactly what needs to be repaired on your car in order to get it through the test, and the test and retest costs combined are most likely going to be cheaper than the cost of a pre-NCT test.

Get the tyres sorted, doesnt matter how broke you are or how far and straight the road is. Your life isnt worth it.
